Fingernail length. How long on others before you think 'Offputting'?

In town, I occasionally meet a woman, who is very attractive and pleasant, but she has very long fingernails, which is one thing I find a little off-putting.

So, do you feel the same about nails which are, for example, one inch longer than the finger like the woman's I see?

Yes, one inch IS off-putting! I prefer just a bit above the fingertip, although I can appreciate a tad longer...but not more! One of my guy friends at works keeps his hands manicured and his nails are a little longer, but on him they look good. He has nice hands. But even on him, sometimes I think it's a little too long.

I concur, just a little bit above the fingertip is classy and elegant - too long makes me wonder if they do anything for work :p

I don't find nails that are long very attractive anymore. I find the term "off-putting" interesting. I don't think that it puts me off, but I definitely think that it looks very dated and clumsy. But it is making a comeback here. Rhianna has long, pointy nails and so do Adele and Gwen Stanfi. So maybe it is me who is antiquated, LOL !

Not really a fan of "long" nails. I don't find it necessarily 'off-putting' as you say, but the whole concept of really long nails does seem a bit dated to me.

I am not a big fan of long nails at all. They look dated to me, and they strike me as just plain unsanitary (seriously, studies have also confirmed this: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/s.....Yb6h7Wsh8E).

I work in healthcare and know we are not allowed long nails for hygiene reasons.

I am going to swim against the tide on this one, with a caveat. I have slightly longer nails (only like 1/4 to 1/3 inch - not dragon lady like!) but I also have quite short nail beds. I'm talking so short that I have no 'half moons' near the cuticle and never have (only on my thumbs). I remember being surprised to see them on others when I was a teenager lol. If I were to keep my nails 'just beyond my fingertips' they would look downright stubby when painted.
What I find more off putting honestly is overly done acrylic nails that click on everything.

I'm not really concerned about nail length. My job does't allow us to have more than 1/2 inch. My nails tend to grow quickly so they can get pretty long. The only thing I find offputting is poor hygiene.

I have no fingernails due to rock climbing, but I honestly have always found long nails (over .25 inch) kind of skeevy and claw-like. I have never been able to keep my nails pristine.

I don't find longer nails off-putting so much as baffling -- how do people function with long nails? Mine get snagged on stuff or obstruct whatever I am doing when they are barely beyond finger-tip length!

Oh, no. Am I at skeevy here??
Truth be told, my job behind the bar means I cut them back every couple of weeks or they get too brittle. But this was in FL while I was off and could grow them.

Mo, you are not skeevy! I will have to think about what 1/4 inch of nails really is. An inch seems crazy, even a half-inch - but I am so not a nail girl.

I wonder how much the lack of love for longer nails has to do with the fact that artificial nails are now very easy and relatively affordable to get and pretty lifelike, whereas long nails used to be a leisure class marker. (Kind of like the no tan, tan, no tan shift.) I certainly know lots of women who have artificial nails, but none with long nails. Really, none with nails more than a 1/4 inch beyond their fingertips. Hmmmmm.

Longer nails = more germs, but probably not an issue unless you are a healthcare worker. At UCSF hospital, the policy is *no* artificial nails/tips/wraps on anyone with patient contact and no nails beyond fingertips.

I don't mind nails like Mos (esp. when very well kept/white natural nails, or nicely painted) but longer is scary. I don't want to see any extra nail on food service employees, daycare employees/teachers of young kids, or healthcare workers!
Sue me . . . but I have immune system issues and a background that dips into public health and have read the studies. I also work a job where I can't wear hand or wrist jewelery (plain band and watch ok in some situations) or wear long or painted/acrylic nails, and that is a sacrifice I make. My particular restrictions don't even involve infection control and public health and safety!

Not a fan of nails that are longer than the finger tip. Longer than that (to me) just looks dated and unattractive. My nails grow really fast - and I have to clip and file them no less than once a week to keep them at the length that I like. I also always wear nail polish, so its not that I'm pro-short nails because it looks more natural. I'm pro short nails because I just think it looks better!

Mo, yours are just the right length. Any longer and my eyebrows would be going up, though! J/king...
