I do my own finds, but I also lean on everyone else's finds in a couple of ways:
I sometimes use it to "pre shop" a store or website, or to familiarize myself with a new-to-me retailer. I'll pull up all the finds from a certain store or line. That gives me a snapshot of the store's look and can highlight some options I might have overlooked otherwise.
If I'm trying to figure out what type of item I might like, I'll do a search of finds people have collected already (the way some people use pinterest). I recently pulled up all the finds labeled "sneakers" for example. That gave me a good overview of what kind of sneakers options are out there, and helped me see which variations appealed to me. I've done the same for handbags, or pants styles.
I've also used items from the bigger finds collection to put together a practice capsule for a certain look. I like finds for this because finds are actual items that are out there in stores (especially if I limit my search to stores in my price range).
