Final K/R: "Betty" skirt? - YouLookFab Forum

I have no idea why this material is called Betty. Weird! The name that is, the material is pretty cool, like houndstooth but softened and blurred.

Pros: 1) I like it. I just tried it on here with two tops I have out, but it is a Fall and Winter fabric so I'm imagining it with a similar EF assym top but sleeved, or a red, black or cobalt sweater.

Cons: 1) Does it look tweedy? Queen Mum? 2) I really struggle with proportion when it comes to skirts. It doesn't help that I refuse to tuck anything! The plain black blouse looks too long maybe...does it look any better pulled up? That will be an issue because most of my sweaters are long. I don't want to get them out, but it could be I have nothing to wear with the skirt. 3) As I responded on the blog today, I really have few occasions for skirts. The ones I have I keep for a long time, so they do get use over the years, but would this one just be splitting wears with the black pencil skirt I also bought? It would be worn for the same type of occasions in the same general way...better to just have one option?

So...several Cons and just one Pro. But the price is low, so liking the material and wearing it "some" may be enough. Help me decide! How does it look objectively speaking? Lay some fab wisdom on me!

It doesn't look too tweedy because it looks almost like an abstract, as though tweed was magnified and photographed.
I think it looks great on you, I like it just the way you're showing it and your ideas for options sound good too.

This is the type of thing I like to go for: Interesting texture in a classic silhouette. I think it looks very current with how you've styled it.
Could you also wear it with a chambray top? (I saw Cheryl's latest post and she's got something like that going on.)
I wish I had some good advise about splitting wears, Peri!

I bought this skirt as one of my 2 (or possibly 3, depending on burgundy coat decision later) NAS items.
I do wear pencil skirts regularly to work, less often than pants but I like to have different ones because I'm really ticky about what footwear, how tights look, slight variations in length; and maybe just for variety.
However,the absolute key thing is fit and fabrication. This particular skirt hit both boxes, was a better fit than some recent AT skirts (my usual best fit) and the tweed is forgiving, doesn't crease or whisker or highlight, umm, imperfections. I like the slightly muted colors, too and that little fleck of beige or camel in it so it works well with many neutrals and solid colors I have. That seems to make it work better for me with both nude hose and nude-ish footwear in warm weather (have worn it already) and with darker tights and footwear for winter.

You're too tough on yourself, Peri. This skirt looks better on you than on the model!

Oh, and , point, you look fab in black tops, which work great with the contrast of the skirt, whereas with s black skirt, it's monochrome and can't see top details as well.

I really like this skirt on you, Peri! It looks great with the asymmetrical hem top, and with the other one, I like the proportions better in 3. It certainly looks different than a plain black skirt, so I would think there's room for both in your wardrobe. But I understand how you could split wears with the black skirt, if you don't have that many skirt occasions. To which I might suggest taking it as a challenge to find more skirt occasions, because this looks great on you.

I like it on you! The printed aspect adds a fun element, if you feel black is too sober for the occasion.

As for splitting wears, if I'm honest, EVERYTHING splits wears. I really only need a few things. It's amazing how few things we really truly need. I think it's more about price and value. If I don't pay a lot for something, I'm not going to be as concerned about how often I need to wear it to justify the purchase.

I love it most in 1 and 3.i also struggle with not wanting to tuck things in but in this case I think the proportions are better with the shorter span of black at the top. It's a great skirt on you!

Thanks everyone! I think it's a keep. That may not be the entirely logical decision from a minimalist view, but it seems I'm moving to moderate lately anyway. I'm thinking like CocoLion...it was under $50 at the sale price so that's not a lot to justify. I'm just going to keep it for a dose of fun, and if it doesn't get down to pennies per wear that's okay. Everything else was practical this NAS so I guess this is my wildcard.

I like that reasoning. This is your version of my jumpsuit. Enjoy.
