Filling a big wardrobe hole - with trousers!

My first thread! Ack...

I am starting a new job next week and it's going to be very physical and casual. I have the leggings + tunic + comfy shoes outfit combinations sorted, I've even worked out how casualify some of my beloved frocks....but I need help with pants and jeans.

I am not a jeans or trousers person by any stretch of the imagination, but this job physically requires that I wear them some of the time. I also have a problem with pants falling down so I do need something with a higher rise (more than 9 inches usually)

My current casual pants wardrobe stands thus: Black skinny jeans (not overly skinny with a mid rise), Blue chinos with a slightly flared leg and some nautical detail, and some black ponte pants (very skinny). I was thinking of adding dark indigo flared jeans and some grey skinny cords, but other than that I am at a loss. Any recommendations from seasoned pants wearers out there?

I would get a pair of straight-leg jeans in medium wash or darker. They will be more versatile than flares. I love the Citizens of Humanity Ava style because I have a really hard time getting pants to stay up, and these actually seem to fit better than most because the rise is a little higher.

I have a ridiculously long rise, and I've had excellent luck with the Jag Lucy bootcut jeans and Kut from the Kloth skinny jeans (more on the "straight" side than the "skinny" side.) I like the new Gap Real Straight jeans, but they are definitely more low-rise than my Jag and Kut jeans. I also tried on a pair of dark bootcut Kut from the Kloth jeans - I believe it was the Michelle cut - and really liked them, though I don't need another pair at this point.

Unfortunately I haven't found any trousers/non-jeans pants that work on my body and have given up on doing so. I hope that someone else chimes in to help you out!

LOFT has some cute gray skinny cords, my sis picked up a pair and they're lovely on her (she's a pear shape and it fits her perfectly, if that helps).

I don't have any brand recommendations but you might look for a pair of trouser jeans. They're cut like dress pants but out of denim. I have a pair in grey/silver that I wear like crazy.

Thanks for the tips ladies. I think you're right about sticking to straight leg or bootcut jeans rather than flares when I am starting from scratch. I am just such a sucker for the 70s, flares are such a welcome change when I am starting to tire of skinny pants and jeans.

Welcome to YLB and congrats on new job. I love the Gap Always Skinny not low rise to me and also Kut from the Kloth from Nordstroms. If you can wear jeggings Gap has great jeggings that are so comfy and hit just below the navel. I think Angie has them in her store.

I have to hike pants up all the time due to my poochy tummy and non-existent hips conspiring to push them down. Higher rises tend to help but they can often dig into my waist and be uncomfortable.
