I was on a short shopping outing recently, with a replacement blush winter scarf somewhere in the back of my mind, when I stumbled upon this mauve beauty. Weird to be buying a warm blanket scarf in the height of summer, but knowing I can never find what I need when looking for it, I snapped it up. I’m finding the color delicious, and as I have a neutral heavy wardrobe (with two grey winter coats!) I’m pretty sure this one will be almost as versatile as my blush one that’s falling apart.

Then I ordered a pleated midi skirt online (I know, after commiserating with Bijou about the trouble with pleated skirts for pear shapes). I kind of loved the print with the slimming diagonals and thought it was navy based, which works beautifully with my color palette. When it arrived, it turned out to be a shade of purple instead. I kind of loved it even more then. (As a sidebar: the elasticated middle is unfortunately uncomfortably tight and the next size up is sold out already, so I’m afraid I’ll have to let this one pass *sobbing vehemently*).

All of this is leading me to conclude that perhaps purple, and then especially this warmer shade of mauve, is having a bit of a moment for fall-winter?

I would sure love that, because it’s a shade that really speaks to me. Two or three years ago I got a silk blouse in a warm shade of violet that’s still in good condition as it was in storage during baby years … I could get that one out too and start a small mauve complement. Yet often I’m hesitant to wear purple, especially with my dark fw-palette because it can give off a bit of a witch vibe …

Have you seen dusty purple/mauve in stores? Have you collected any on your inspiration boards? Would you wear it? And if so, any tips for not being burnt at the stake?
