feeling like a little drama

my style is pretty basic and fairly conservative. i tend to wear modern classics and i definitely have an innate preppy side (comes from growing up in New England), but suddenly i'm finding myself attracted to these long, dramatic tops…i'm not sure why…i don't see my style changing, but there's something about this that just attracts me. i'm wondering if its just because they are so different from what i'm seeing in actual B&M stores. anyone else feeling a need to add some drama?
when you've bought something so far from your regular style, do you tend to embrace it or regret it?

I love the pics and agree, there is something refreshing in the cut of these tops. Different yet modern and structural.

If it were me and I was venturing out trying something new, I would first go for the Zara options to confirm the love or quickly decide it's not for me. That way you're not out a lot of bucks like say for the first two options. If the Zara works out then by all means go for the lovelies

totally agree abc, if i do decide to try this, i'd be looking for a fast fashion or at least something in that price point to try.

I love these! I do hear you on wanting to add drama but wondering whether or not it will really feel like "you". I am also a very classic, conservative dresser, but for $10, I'd probably give the red Zara version a go. With the exception of the last one, with the navel-bearing high slit, they feel like a very modern twist on a classic long over lean silhouette.

I bought a similar item for our spring/summer it is a jersey type knit with short sleeves - I've worn it three times so far & love it. It's as comfy as a tee but with +++++ more style. If I were you I'd go with your feelings. I can see you looking amazing in this silhouette

I always feel a little odd about the "not my style" issue. I think we can all embrace whatever we want...wear something a little different with confidence and it becomes your style.

That's the key...and you don't know if you can stride out in confidence until you put it on and see how you feel. If you feel great, it becomes your style, even if only for a day now and then. If you feel uncomfortable in it, that gives you the other answer. As Caro says, it's all about how you feel.

I love these too, and I think we are both firmly in the modern classics group. If you think of these like a long cardigan, does it make it seem more in sync with your style? I'm sometimes surprised how much I love something that is a bit out of my comfort zone. I definitely like to buy cheap to try first, though.

I'm attracted to this type of thing too. I think it's the fact that it is basic, in the sense that the lines and colours are clean, yet the silhouettes are not what you normally see around town.

My venture into culottes has been my most dramatic item. Next the wide-leg pants. Then various pleats.
The thing they had in common was that they worked with my natural waistline and so "stayed put", so to speak.

I like the look of those tops on the models, but I can't wear these long straight tops because they do not hang in this straight architectural way on me!
And you need hips and pants underneath that do not "compete".

I love the Zara ones -- they're an affordable way to try something new. The fact that they're a dramatization of the classic, basic tee would make them just a bolder version of a classic item. The burgundy one is particularly attractive!

I already have the black Zara tee and haven't worn it yet. I love the idea of it but am struggling with how to wear it. The front slit is challenging. But I am treating it as an inexpensive experiment! I think the camel knit would be a bit easier to wear - side slits are easier and more classic than front slits I think. But I love all these looks!

I have been looking at the burgundy one in finds. I am going to go by Zara tomorrow and try in on.
It is a big departure from my style but style is an adventure.

Wow -- I love these! I am nodding with the crowd here. Try at a low price point to play safely first. I find the Zara options really appealing. I'd love to see them on you!

And, to answer your question, going "outside my style" is always a crapshoot. When I purchase a wildcard item, it can be a real success, or it can sit in my closet unworn. So, there is inherent risk -- which is why, for me, trying at a low price point first always makes sense.

ok, i'm going to take the plunge and order the Zara pieces….so wish there was a Zara in my city, as it will cost almost as much to ship these as they cost…
