favorite thing about the new ylf

it took me a few days to digest the changes and interact with the site.

my favorite thing is really quite small, but sets the tone for the site. i love the textured pebbly leather background in that greyish off-white tone. very soothing and calming and the perfect backdrop for monochrome or hectically patterned or color blocking or what have you.

really sets the mood, which enhances the experience.

what about you all?

My favorite thing is that the MINE threads are now also coded (green, grey bubbles) so you can pick up where you left off, instead of paging from either the very first or very last post.

Aesthetically, I love the sleek new format. The feature that allows us to view the threads in picture view is awesome. I love being able to change the viewing format to see if I missed anything. So cool. I'm looking forward to checking out the "following" feature too--but I haven't played with it yet.

I like that the pictures expand and keep scrolling around when you get to the end - it usually takes at least two looks for me to decide what I think. I like the background color also. I love the masonry view. I am sure there is more but that is what is off the tip of my fingers (?).

bj that's one of the things I noticed too and I was actually just gazing at the screen this morning (at work lol) thinking what a lovely effect it is.

I like that if I am in a rush, I can just go to "FOLLOWING" filter and quickly browse to see if anything is new!

You click the eye under the person's profile picture on their profile page. Cool filter!

Tag lines at the top had me straight away, a subtle but powerful way to really plant into our minds what style and YLF are all about. See here.

I like the monochrome background of the front page, although I was a huge fan of the previous backgrounds which all reflected their respective months so faithfully.

I like that pictures scroll around, like shevia I need two passes at least to see things more objectively. Great enhancement in terms of usability.

I like readily available formatting buttons for the responses. And, when you type longer response and scroll the dialog box up and down, they remain visible at all times because they float so you can easily access them.

Generally, I like the overall design, it is so fresh and modern that it instantly made many other sites look dated if I'm honest.

There are many things I haven't tried yet, but that's OK, I like to take it all in slowly and gradually

I love the leather look background too. I do know about the following button but have decided against it for now as I don't want to filter anyone out as a thread might pop up that really interests me and I could miss it if it was from someone not on my list.

I think is very minimalist and elegant. It has worked because I have just registered myself as a member and I am following ylf almost from the beginning!

My favorite is the fact that the tile mode now lets me view the first few words of threads that don't have pictures. I have another favorite board (not fashion related) that would let you hover over the title of threads and it would pull up the first sentence or so of the thread, which was great as a interest grabber and time saver since we aren't all wordsmiths and word our threads accordingly! I wish I could see this on the pic threads as well!

I'm also wishing that there was something I could do to locate my posts in long threads, and I miss the monthly backgrounds and the green "Y" icon on my tabs!

Thanks for the thread, bj. Your comments are interesting, and we are thrilled that the new design is going down so well.

Btw, it's not a FOLLOWING feature. It's a WATCHING feature. The two are different, and our thinking was very deliberate. You cannot follow someone back, and you have no idea who is following you. Hence it's all about "Watching". Hope that makes sense.

I didn't know of the 'watching' feature! I've been a little busy and haven't fully explored all the new stuff here and it's exciting! I love the sleek, modern appeal! And IT IS soothing!

WATCHING is for those who want to only watch the forum members whose threads they do not want to miss. It's a way of creating a subset of the forum which gets very overwhelming. You can switch between the two modes whenever you want to.
