Favorite robe? (Found one!)

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. I hope to chime in more often in the new year. Everyone looks great in their 2016 outfits!

Now for my post. My robes have seen better days and I need to consider replacements. Does anyone have a favorite robe? Thanks!

My favorite robe I ever had was navy blue silk with creamy white silk trim. It was hooded, and looked like a boxer's robe. It got stolen from me. I've not seen another like it and will probably have to have one custom made.

cynthiawalksmith - Thanks for chiming in. It sounds lovely. So sorry it was stolen. That's horrible. The color combo sounds so rich. A few questions. Did you use the hood? Was it warm? Only for warmer temps? Did you lounge in it? Thanks for any more input on this.

Great to see you AM. My current robe belonged to my DH's father. It is a white terry cloth wrap style robe. My all time favourite robe was a plush green one. I wore it out. I could use a new one. I like plush wrap style ones.

A flannel robe is my favorite. I do not care for girly stuff so go to the men's department. Ralph Lauren blue plaid is what I wear now.

It had matching wide leg lounge pants with the matching wide cream band at the bottom of the legs (to match the band that went down both sides of the front opening of the robe and carried around the edge of the hood), and I wore it all the time with a cream tshirt. I actually slept in the pants, and had the robe hanging nearby for when i woke up. Pretty much year round I wore that set. Of course, I live in the south, and our winters aren't brutal. And I loved the hood, it was perhaps the best part. I felt so mysterious when I used the hood, because it was kind of loose and so wonderfully drapey (I think it would be considered a sandwashed silk?) It had a belt and belt loops and it was the best thing ever. I felt like a really rich leisurely lady who lunches or something LOL

It was some French sounding brand and I obtained it in the mid 90s and managed to hold onto it until maybe 2003. no pajamas or robe have felt adequate since

Edit: the robe was long, calf length and I'm 5'7"

cynthiawalksmith: I think I need a silky long robe with a hood -- and those wide legged pants. Your post has struck a real chord with me. I definitely see this type of robe as being part of a small collection. It just sounds so wonderful. Your post sounds like a love story. That's how I want to feel about a special robe. I need some for utility but I want one that is makes my heart sing. Thank you for sharing.

Style Fan: Great to see you to. I need to explore the terry option. I need one for absorbency. I'll put this on my list. Sounds like you just might need a new robe too. Funny to hear you are wearing you DH's father robe.

Deb: Flannel has been off my radar -- I'll need to check into that. I definitely want a cuddly robe that I can lounge in. And I don't want it too thick. Flannel might be a good choice.

My favorite robe is made by UGG. It's probably not what you're looking for, but it's perfect for me. It's a fairly substantial, warm, soft, thick, fleece that despite multiple washes has stayed that way. I have two of them. I rotate colors for the seasons.

way back in the day i had a robe from Victoria Secrets that remains my gold standard...it was satiny on the outside, but with a light fleecy lining. today i have a light knit robe from nordstroms (at work, and for some reason can't access nordstroms site). what both robes had in common--pockets!

My favorite robe is the one I have now. It's a a soft, dark, heathered blue cotton knit. I wouldn't go down for breakfast in it, but it's just the ticket for one's shower. I actually wear it. I used to have a gorgeous mint brocade dressing gown that one could have breakfast in - but it wasn't cozy. I avoided it like the plague. Lol.

AM, three robes is definitely reasonable. If I had the space right now, I'd have my fluffy one for winter (our RV can feel cold rather easily), and I'd get another silk set made like the last one. I hope you find something that you love as well as the utility models

I don't wear robes because I tend to trip over the hems of long ones and drag the loose sleeves through heaven knows what. When my late mom passed away, she must have had at least a half dozen or more. I must warn you that the nice thick plush terry ones take FOREVER to dry. And what's the point if they aren't luxuriously thick?

Throwing in a vote for Lands End terry cloth robes. Very soft, washable, ankle length on 5'4" me, with rollable sleeves. I wear mine daily and wash at least weekly. They last about two years with very hard wear.

This thread has got me to thinking about my robe. I'm not happy with it. It's not warm enough. I have a Lands End down robe that is very warm, but it feels like it's choking me. The winter robe I've been wearing is thrifted and cost about $4. The one I'm considering is faux fur and looks warm, but is expensive. I was also looking at an LL Bean flannel robe with a sherpa lining and while I was looking at it it sold out!

My all-time favorite was one my mom gave me when my daughter (who is now 23) was born. It was light cotton, a great summer robe, kind of girly but I love it and wore it out. I looked for a replacement for years and finally this past summer made one. I have a knit wrap robe for everyday, in and out of the shower, mornings with my coffee, a light fleece for when I need cozy (even here in MI a heavy fleece is too warm for me) and the cotton summer robe. These 3 work perfectly for me.

My favorite was a soft, drapey, velvet like purple caftan. I also loved a beautiful Japanese looking floral silky robe. I want a cozy but attractive robe that doesn't make me look 40 pounds heavier.

I don't think one robe would work for me. I have a thick fleece one for cool/cold weather,a terry spa robe for the spa and for use after showering and a light weight silky cotton one for warm weather.

I think 3 robes is the perfect robe capsule...I have a terry cloth that I throw on after showers, the natori shangri-la robe which is cool, soft, and light weight for summer, and now I just need a flannel robe for cozy winters.

I agree with Mary. It would be difficult to find one robe to rule them all. If I had to do that, it would be a soft thick cotton terry cloth.

My winter robe isn't very warm so this thread got me thinking about getting a warmer one.

I wanted the plaid flannel sherpa lined robe from LLBean, but it was sold out. So I ordered this N by Natori velour robe from Zappos. Then I noticed the LLBean robe came back in stock so I ordered it too. The Zappos order will be here tomorrow so I can see what it's like. The LLBean robe should be here in a week or so. I'll report my findings!

Thanks for all the comments! This has been so helpful as I did a massive search. I'm still thinking I need three but I'm really excited about this one for the "cozy robe." It is the Natori Sherpa Robe - sometimes listed as Natori Faux Shearling. I selected the Cashmere color. Different outlets offer different colors. And there are some deals to be had if you search - see Saks and check bloomingdales. I purchased from bloomingdales on sale and got the slippers too. They seem to sell out and then get replenished. Nordstrom was sold out and now they are back. Just felt the coziest -- above flannel, fleece and other options. Jaileen - please report your findings. I haven't worn mine yet as I may check out one more....
