nars powermatte. lasts forever and fades into a pretty stain. teensy bit drying by hour 10.

ysl rouge pur. moisturizing but fades around hour 4.

Why is divulging lipstick info so satisfying?

Burt's Bees Sweet Violet for when I want a little natural flush or just everyday lip balming.

Burt's Bees Petunia (discontinued, natch! But I stockpiled!) for a nude lip with a little sheen when I wear heavy eye makeup

MAC Flat out Fabulous for an awesome matte electric Pepto pink.

Sephora It Girl for a retro orangey red.

Sephora Hot Tango for a more romantic scarlet.

FWIW, I think MAC makes the absolute best. As my Sephora ones wear down, I plan on replacing them with similar MAC shades!

The lippie I reach for most often is MAC's Brick-O-La, a pretty, soft red that is very vivid on my pale skin.

I love a good lipstick discussion and am making lots of notes I don't have a current favourite - struggling with dry lips and pronounced lines above my mouth and not feeling great in anything right now. I wish I could wear all of the reds and brick colours here, but high-contrast /bold lip colour looks scary on me.

I like MAC lipsticks --they have a lot of interesting shades.

My favourite lipsticks have always been Chanel and Dior. Pretty colours, soft texture and ... nice smell! I alternate them with cheaper brands. Recently I have been using Dior Lipglow in Berry and I am very happy with it. It's a coloured lip balm and feels very pleasant on dry lips. It is finishing and I am thinking of buying it again.

Thanks for starting this thread as I am in the market for new lipstick. Since I stopped dying my hair, the old standbys seem off. I have been wanting a nude lipstick and have tried sooooo many... and they all just look awful on me! Make me look dead.

I was over on the NYX web site this weekend-- they have this tool where you can upload your photo and try on the lippies virtually. So many nudes just looked like chalk on me, or washed me out.

I would like a "my lips but better" lipstick but I guess I still have a lot of pigment in my lips or something? In the past I've done the best with drugstore brands that are in the mauve family, but aren't too light.

What a great post ! Thank you nemosmom for starting it.

I decided last year to do with my make up and nails polish what I have done with my clothes for several years : have a core capsule.

It means for me, that I have 1 Spring/Summer neutral lipstick and 1 neutral Fall/Winter.

My warm weather one is Kate Moss #104. Similar to MAC's Twig.
For cold weather it's MAC's Del Rio. I find it a tad drying so I wear it with lip balm. I also really like Revlon's Rum Raisin which is much more moisturizing.

I always have a red for more special occasions too but it's not part of my core. That one is L'Oreal Eva's red. In the summer I add an orangey color because I love that with blues and greens. That is Milani Orangina

Oh Oh Oh! *puts hand up* . I DO have a new favourite - and it's the best lipstick I've ever had : Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lip Balm in Hippy Shake. Liquid lipsticks are really tricky for me - anything I've tried has been too drying and matte looking, and too dramatic for my low-contrast face But this, this is different . Soft, stays put, subtly glossy and gorgeous coverage. This colour is perfect too : not too warm and not too cool. Just right . Pretty $$ in Cdn dollars (I'm dying at it only being $26 on Nordstrom's site - that's what we pay for a MAC lipstick!) but worth every penny.

Angie - which colour of the Vice lipsticks do you use? I have one - and like it too.

It's so fun to read this thread!

I'm on my umpteenth tube of MAC Viva Glam V. It's a nice neutral pink with lustrous finish that turned out to be my HEWI shade. (I am pale, with warm skin tones.)

Lipstick Queen! As a fair, cool-toned brunette with blue/green/grey eyes, I swear by rosy-berry tones. Saint Natural (cool rose) and Saint Wine (cool deep berry) are my faves, and for a YLBB look, Frog Prince. It's green (!) that adjusts to a "magical rosebud". All are super moisturizing, if not particularly long-lasting, but I don't mind re-applying. I searched for YEARS to find a product that would protect my horribly dry lips, and finally found it. Cannot recommend highly enough!

My favorites are from Nars:
Pigalle, which is a pinky-chocolate, and Tolede, a bit less brown and lighter, more of a plummy pink.

Both are matte and a bit drying, but I don’t like glossy much anymore. A dab of Vaseline in the middle of my lips over the color seems to work just fine for me.

I recently chucked all my various lipsticks except for a few MAC faves, which seem to have impact while remaining natural looking. Not drying, long-lasting.
Life is so much simpler now without all those “almost right” shades. My everyday MAC is Fast Play.

I use two lip products. Currently I’ve been using this lipstick which I buy at CVS. It’s a nice color and not drying. Plus, no awful perfume.

But first I use this lip sunscreen which I also buy at CVS. If I’m outside I don’t want my lips to burn. It doesn’t have perfume or “flavors”. I’ve had to throw some away because of that.

I swear by Burt's Bees Red Dahlia Lip Balm. It's a MLBB shade for me that I can reapply at work without looking in a mirror because it's fairly sheer.
I also really like Glossier's Generation G in Like, when I'm feeling a cool toned, sheer but matte look. It's not terribly moisturizing though, so I don't wear it as often as the balm.
