I have Kendall Farr's books, and the Lucky guides. I would like to get others. Any great ones to suggest?

InStyle did a book a few years ago which I recently picked up at the thrift store, and I really like it. I also have both the Trinny & Susannah books and Tim Gunn's first book (the second is entertaining but more of a memoir/tell-all than focused on how-tos).

I have Sherrie Mathieson's books: Forever Cool and Steal this Style. They're ok, but she tends to be VERY strict about what women of a certain age are "allowed" to wear. I think if it were up to her everyone over 40 would be limited to neutrals, collared shirts, and dark flare jeans.

I guess that's not really a book recommendation, is it?

LOL Nancy, I'm thinking I might avoid that one. I'm coming up on 40 in the next couple of years and don't want to be told that's all I can wear.

I get most of my fashion books at the library since they do date fairly quickly. I have the Kendall Farr books "Pocket Stylist" and "Style Evolution" (library discards). I also have Melody Fortier's "Little Guide to Vintage Shopping" -- it's a great (and pocket-size) resource for almost all things vintage. I also get a kick out of the Dover Everyday Fashion series; there's a book for each decade since the 1900-1910s (but I get this from the library). If you are a fan of Mad Men, their stylist Janie Bryant has a book "the Fashion File" which is quite fun (but not very "deep"). I wouldn't buy it, buy I enjoyed it from the library, especially the vintage sections. Twiggy is supposed to have a book geared to over-40s that I've heard good things about, but haven't seen it "live" yet.

I don't really like to read fashion books; but I found Tim Gunn's second book very interesting and funny to read. I love Tim!

I like flipping through foreign editions of magazines. I just bought a UK InStyle

I really like Stacy London & Clinton Kelly's (TV's 'What Not To Wear' hosts) 'Dress Your Best' book they put out a few yrs ago....showed many examples and different styles...for both men & women of different ages. Clinton has since written 2 more books - one is 'Freakin' Fabulous' that covers other topics along with fashion (hosting a party, home decor, etc) and 'Oh No, She Didnt' a *very* funny fashion book (although no new info-just fashion 'crimes') and its a small book, but a great read! HTH!

Freakin' Fabulous is a great book! I got it for like $5; and it is an amazing read. People always talk to me when I read it in public! I think I have it lent out right now.

I haven't found any book that can come close to the great advice we get here on You Look Fab. Angie needs to compile a bunch of her blogs into a book.

I would buy Angie's book!

Not everyone would agree with me, but I do find Colour me Confident, by Veronique Henderson and Pat Henshaw a really good guidebook through colours and styles that work for me...

I just received The Sartorialist in the mail yesterday. It's a Mother's Day gift from my darling daughter, so I will have to say that this is now my favorite fashion book!

Joy, while I love books too, I tend to agree with you. I'm filling a notebook with my favorite blog entries so I can have Angie's book of wisdom to take with me.
