Fave hangers?

Do you have favorite hangers? I'm looking to upgrade from my boring white plastic hangers. Are the velvety no slip skinny ones all they are cracked up to be?

For tops, jackets, and dresses, I've switched all my hangers to the velvety flocked ones - specifically, the Real Simple brand from BB&B, the heavyweight ones - I found the regular flocked ones would bend and didn't work as well with heavier items. Then I've got separate specific pant and skirt hangers as well, for those items.

I love the velvet skinny ones. They doubled my closet space! In fact, I just bought a bunch for my parents in connection with their move to a small assisted-living apartment!

But if space were no object I'd have stuck to my wooden hangers.

I bought some wooden ones from onlyhangers.com. I have very narrow shoulders and found that regular-sized hangers were too wide for my clothing. I was SO happy to find hangers in other sizes.

I really want to buy smaller width hangers, but I can't justify spending much. I am jealous of all the hangers at J Crew that are beautiful and also narrow.

I also like the slim "velvet" hangers but can no longer find my favorite from Bed, Bath and Beyond with little hooks to hang vertically.

I use different hangers for different items. My jackets and coats are on wooden hangers because I think they support the shoulder line better. My shirts, dresses, and sweaters (yes, I hang sweaters by folding them on the hanger) are on the skinny velvet hangers, my pants hang from the hems on clamped pant hangers, and my skirts are on a tiered skirt hanger. I use plastic hangers to dry shirts and dresses because I'm leery of transferring dye from those velvet hangers.

My mix-and-match approach doesn't make my closet look like the ones in the design magazines, but it is functional and, more importantly, keeps my clothes in good shape.

I also use a nice wooden coat hanger for heavy wool coats.

I prefer the velvety hangars for blouses, sweaters etc. because they hold onto the tops and there is no slipping off the hangers...especially nice for wider neckline tops.

I love those thin velvety hangers. They grip nicely so even the wider necks are pretty secure. They are very reasonable at cost co.

I use the velvet hangers for slippery things, and regular (pretty aqua) hangers for things like my fleece jackets and more substantial shirts. Home Goods always has the velvet hangers, and for a better price than I've seen anywhere else.

I use the same system as Gaylene! Except I fold my trousers and sweaters and keep them in drawers, and use the clamps to hang skirts. I like having different types of hangers for different 'jobs.'
