Faux fur for a casual dresser?

For some reason, the faux fur coats are appealing to me recently. However, I am an uber casual dresser and wonder if this will look ridiculous on me or be completely impractical. This style faux fur from Nordies is attracting my eye...

I think that the idea came from Angie's MOTG friend, Phoebe and Chewyspaghetti's fab fur vests. I don't think a faux fur vest is going to be practical for my area....it's already getting too cool for vests. Would a faux fur coat be a good alternative?

wow.. that is a fab jacket. I think you can mix this coat with a casual outfit to jazz it up a tad.
I would never get use in my area with a coat like that, so I'm shopping the vests.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. I see it as more of an occasional coat when you're in and out of the car, and not something that you're going to wear for a long walk in sub-zero weather! Might be worth a try to see if you like the length on you.

May I suggest thinking about this very carefully, Cilleena. Faux fur coats are dramatic - I LOVE them, but they are eye catching to say the least.

From what I have gathered, you are uncomfortable defying your environmental norm to a large extent. While I desperately want you to defy your environmental norm, I also want you feel confident and fabulous.

FWIW, I have loads of Seattle Mums in faux fur vests and coats. It's actually a very practical, cozy and fun look.

I think you'd look great in that, but Angie has some valid points. I love the faux fur look too but didn't want/need the bulk so I bought this faux fur collar vest from Gap instead. I thought it would get more wear (although it's still in the closet unworn).

Good points everyone. I think that Angie's last sentence..."It's actually a very practical, cozy and fun look." really tells me what I needed to know. I have several reasons for wanting to try it out that include all of those things. I also really love fuzzy, furry things. My kids would get such a kick out of it and DH really likes faux fur on me. I will probably not wear it with heels or skirts, because that's not my style, but if tall boots, booties or moto boots will work with a simple shirt or sweater underneath, then I am in business. Also, our winters are sooo, sooo long and cold, that I think I will die if I have to wear my puffer every.single.day again this winter. Hopefully, faux fur will be a warm enough alternative on some days.

Consider a vest if you think the coat is too much and you wouldn't be comfortable wearing it. Think iof it more like a sweater than outerwear and I think it becomes more practical.

I have a Jones NY faux fur coat I got at last yrs NAS and it is similar in length and weight (I think) to this one and is very warm (I live in Mn and can sympathize with you about the cold!)I think if you travel by car a lot you'd be just fine!

I'm all for it, but I think you might start off with a vest - much easier to be casual and not stand out as much, plus it's easy to just add in. A coat is a commitment at another level (as I know, having a million of them!).

Hmm, sounds like a vest might be a good idea. How does a faux fur vest work with a coat over it? It's already too cold to go out without sleeves....at least for me anyway. I know some people who are comfortable in a down vest and just a sweater into subzero temps.

I just stuff myself into my down coat, faux fur vest and all. Faux fur is very compressible. And not all that warm really, at least to me, more decorative.
