Akin to laser cut? For some reason it looks more intentional on the skirt because there are several and the fabric isn't wooly. On the sweater it does look unfortunate.

Perfect! I can pick up some moth-eaten cashmere at the thrift shop and I won't even have to DIY it. This trend is going to keep a lot of clothing out of the land fills!

I've seen a lot of this kind of patterning and I love it. It's fun and witty! Also, with tops, it's cool to have a dark color with a lighter brighter tee underneath, in my opinion.

What claire said. Also I'm used to seeing the real version of this on penniless artists and students, kind of a old skool bohemian garret dweller look, or alternatively burning man folks in winter time (paired with fingerless wooly gloves).

That said I was thinking about lazer cut skirts today and wondering why lazer cut baggy jeans weren't a thing yet. You could do florals, animal patterns, geometric designs, it could be awesome.

Kind of another angle on what @rabbit was getting at, this is like a weird reference to a Victorian London poverty look with the also very British brogues. Kind of odd...but sort of fun? I think? Maybe?

(It is clearly time for me to get back to work on a knitting project I've had sitting around for a couple of years that would fit with this aesthetic nicely. Hee.)

I thought the skirt was potentially kind of cute actually, although I would have to see it in real life to know for sure ... the sweaters though did look like the moths had been at them!

Well, it's not so different from my linen Matrix sweater that I knit with intentionally dropped stitches and yes, a random hole or two. But I have to admit the moth-eaten look with the raggedy edged holes kind of squicks me out because I am a knitter and we are all petrified of moths.
