Remember these shoes?

Well they're now over 60% off. But then I started thinking. I have about two more months of summer here in Seattle. Two of those weekends I'm on call. One weekend I'm going to home to see my father while we have family from Australia. Tonight my social activity was hanging out on a boat on Lake Union. I will have hiking to fit in. And a wedding. Maybe a special opera concert. Plus my Dad lent me his DSLR, so I want to get out and play with that. So what I get something like two wears out of them this season. And then I thought about how much wine and oysters I could get at Elliott's (waving to Diana). With friends, multiple times, on their glorious patio on the pier. Which is far more valuable and soul filling than another pair of shoes for the shoecase.
This was a huge and important realization to me.

YES! Yes to the wine and oysters with friends and getting out there and hiking and filling your soul, not sole

Very wise. I remember getting the idea from 'Your Money or Your Life' stuck in my head that money equals your life energy and time spent to earn it.

So does what you are spending it on provide the maximum happiness/benefit for the life energy you are allocating to it? Sometimes it does, sometimes not.

Sometimes there is something else you can allocate it toward that provides greater joy, greater memories.

I've whittled my collection down and focused on closed-toe shoes that I'm finding myself wishing I had a pair I could throw on, like a metallic pair or something. But our season is so short! And truthfully I have sooo many pairs of sandals as it is...

Those are some very cool shoes, and I'm with Caro--the gray would be my choice (no surprise there, I'm sure). You are so right about the limited time to wear them, though. I've thought of this kind of thing lately, as in, how many times could I really wear said item, and is it worth the price, given how much I'd get to wear it? Your revelation is wise, Anna. Thanks for sharing it.

I know exactly what you mean! I work a lot of weekends, too, and then sometimes just want to stay home, or have specific occasions ( a wedding this weekend, too). So to use that " splitting wears" expression, I have to keep reminding myself that I can't make proper use of a large number of non- work seasonal items or outfits, though I need the right ones for the things I do.

I think you still go for top fashion items, and ones you love, but you're right to think of what is about the right number of items or size of capsules for your activities. After all, we need the $$ for the tickets, wine, oysters, airfare to have places to go and things to do in those outfits, and not just packed closets.

plus, it's not like you're losing out fashionwise -- you most definitely have some extraordinary footwear on hand for those two occasions.

Fabulous math. Summers in Seattle are short and cool, and it sounds like you already have a full plate.

Your shoe collection is spectacular, and wine and oysters by the water is divine. Truly perfect math.

Those are wonderful shoes, especially in the gray. But I think that's a really smart decision. Also think oysters and wine outside with friends is quite possibly better than any pair of shoes that could ever exist.
