Interesting pics, but I'm not convinced they all translated so well. Fun to see, though! At least it's regular people in their regular clothing! (I for one am feeling overly visually assaulted by 100 lb, 20 somethings on blogs, and pinterest - it's like models on their off time sharing. Not so novel, or personally inpiring, to me.)

That older guy in the plaid shirt is awesome.

I stopped following a few bloggers because it became clear that they spent hours every day doing photo shoots and things - their main source of income - and it didn't resonate with me anymore. When one of my favourite bloggers posted that she was "dedicating more time" to her blog (aka quitting her job/school) - I was pretty disappointed.

Oh well, time to find new people to follow.

Great set of photos (made me think about swapping clothes with my mother or my daughter - fun!).

That's one of the reasons I really enjoy this forum - real people dressing for lives that include, and indeed focus on, regular daily activities that run the gamut from children to academic jobs to corporate jobs to the more leisurely activities of retirement. Although I do get inspiration from other bloggers, most of it comes from all you Fabbers.

I don't know ... many of these don't translate at all, for me. Although, I think it's the younger people who look strange in the older people's clothing, rather than the other way around like you might expect.

Claudia, I totally agree! I loved Academichic. Their styles were so real and accessible. So many fashion bloggers come across like wannabe-models. I honestly don't find those blogs inspirational at all.

This was fun. I agree with Stacey--a lot of the time, the younger folk in the pix look stranger than the older! But yeah, the styles just don't work if you're not the right age.

I too have a hard time finding decent blogs to follow. YLF is the only one I follow, despite trying hard to add to the list. Angie is so good about posting ideas and tips for *everyone*--she's not just interested in showing herself off, like some of those other bloggers! Even when Angie does post herself in an outfit, her narrative isn't so self-centered, like the "wanna-be models."

Gigi, thanks for the kind words.

I too wish that there was more diversity in the outfit blogosphere. But I don't think it is fair to take that out on the people who are blogging and happen to be successful at it. After all, success is determined by the audience.

I want 100lb 20 somethings to feel just as welcome here on YLF as anyone else.

As to my own comments - no exclusions intended, just observation on the perpetuation of thin and young as the pinnacle of style and/ or beauty. Even the touted 'over 40' bloggers often look model like, no fault of their own, heck, good on them! I got carded today for wine and wear size 4, so it's not like I feel edged out somehow. Just uninspired by the same-ness, if that makes sense.

Fun idea even if execution wasn't perfect. But I am okay with that, too. Seldom is execution ever perfect for us everyday people trying to figure it out.

I do wish all media was more diverse and more inclusive. I admit that I have tuned out most of the blogesphere along with most TV. I have found it greatly improves my self esteem as I am not young or thin.

Mo, I think that is why I really like Angie's (and when other bloggers do this) "Ensemble" blog posts with the collage of elements minus the human model: I've noticed on the forum that these blog posts seem to especially inspire people to try out the look because I think it is so much easier to imagine one's self wearing a different outfit combination or silhouette without the distraction of a human form that may -- or most likely not -- reflect the viewer's own, and therefore maybe prejudice the experimentation to try it out. It provides a different kind of inspiration.

I kinda love that the execution isn't "perfect." Heck, I rarely execute perfectly when I'm wearing my own clothes. Ha!

I really liked seeing the generation swap, and how good each looked in the others' clothes - I often found myself thinking how much better they looked in the "after." ^_^

Hil, what a great photo project! You know, all the switches worked for me. I love the white haired guy who donned the rocker leathers. I thought he was more kicka$$ than the kid who was wearing them first. The biggest thing to me was, I don't think anyone looked inappropriate. There wasn't one person who I thought needed to go home and change to avoid freaking me out.

Which is not to say none of the outfits would have benefited from an Angie tip or two. I mean, schlepping around in your BVD undies is always schlepping if you ask me.

Honestly, part of the reason I gave up most other blogs was the footwear. Like it's really hard to make an outfit look chic in four-inch heels on a warm sunny day.

Give me something I can use on bad feet in bad weather and I'll be grateful and impressed.

I also gave up most of the petite-themed blogs because all the focus on sizes started to feel almost like fetishism.
