Fashion Inspo from movies or TV lately

Last year I was totally inspired by The Night Manager and got my hair cut short in a copycat of Jed's style...

This year while I have enjoyed a few movies there is not a current character that is inspiring me with fashion..

I enjoyed the stark beauty among the grim story of The Handmaid's Tale.
Victoria and Abdul highlighted some wonderful Indian men's clothing.
I am finding Tahani's floral dresses rather fun on The Good Place.

I've been watching Downton Abbey and loving the fashions. The women's dresses are just beautiful. I know I'm late to this show and most people have already watched it.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I want Queenie Goldstein’s hair and entire movie wardrobe - especially her pink high-low coat and oversized beret!

Sara, oh yes I loved Downton Abbey fashions (and the stories too). And some of the characters were just terrific (Thomas, Mary and Carson my favourites).

Yes that was a great movie Carla - I forgot about this as we saw it late last year. And Queenie was very gorgeously attired and beautifully lit.

The last film I saw was Thor Ragnarok and there were some super costumes worn by Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson too. Cut out shoulders, waist bags, head dresses and lots of attitude.

I have been watching Designated Survivor. I quite like the First Lady's style. However, I notice that she wears 4-5 inch stilettos when lounging around the residence in the White House. Hmmm. But when you consider the plot of that show, stilettos as lounge wear is probably not its biggest credibility issue.

We've just finished the second season of "Stranger Things" - LOVED it. The 1984 fashion and music was delightful.

In the last few years I've enjoyed the fashions in Once Upon a Time. The four female leads had amazing outfits, but what was cool is that their styles were quite different as they expressed their personalities.

Now, please don't laugh, but the show that has me admiring its fashions is a tween show... I watch Andi Mack with my (precocious) first-grader and the middle- and high-schoolers (including boys) are so stylish. If only I could have dressed half as interestingly when I was 13!

I did like this costume for Sylvia Hoeks in Blade Runner 2049. I wish I could find a pic that includes the shoes. It’s not super brilliant like the costume design of the original movie, but I find it pleasantly severe... lol!

Weirdly, I'm just not feeling inspired by TV or movies here lately. That's definitely more about me than it is about the wardrobes/costumes of characters. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread and hope for some inspiration before I have to turn over my "letter to santa" this year because I have no clue what to ask for.

Thanks- Cindy do you have Netflix- that is where I watch tv now? But no need to be worried about not watching tv -
Not the most worthwhile activity.

Brooklyn- have yet to see Designated Survivor - I often lounge in my heels though- great to reach high shelves!!

Angie- just started season 2 Stranger Things - love it!!

I didn't post earlier because I was a tad embarrassed. The style icon I think about most is Olivia Pope from Scandal. I have no idea why that particular character reasonates with me, but I loved her style and wanted everything she wore. Some retailer put out an Olivia Pope collection and I stalked it. None of the pieces even came close to what I imagine her wearing.

I adore the outfits on "Sh**t's Creek (I know--terrible name).
It's just so fun. Each character's wardrobe is more memorable than the next, but Moira absolutely takes the cake. I've been looking everywhere for her tights.

Brie - Jon enjoyed Sch***ts Creek. I missed watching that one.

Sterling - I have only seen photo stills from Scandal but Olivia Pope is a stunning dressed woman.

And no need to be embarrassed of shows that you like or get inspiration from.

Ok before I forget: I saw this lady on tv news reporting about the Russian bridge being built to connect Crimea... shiny red puffy and a white scarf filling the neckline with a kind of red and brown autumn leaf pattern. She had brown hair, her colourist was very good: soft shine.

Not that I should have another puffy.

The bridge is impressive, massive. I didn’t know it was being built. It’s almost finished.

Now that you make me think, I don't remember having been inspired by movies or TV series. Yes, some rare cases .... I often like the way Italian TV news speakers are dressed, but I am not "inspired" by them - I know that they wear expensive designer clothes!

I quite like Janet's style - a polished blouse (often with bow or frilled collar) layered under a tailored sleeveless dress, in lovely shades of purples and violet! (I also loved the "Bad Place" Janet with her smoky eye makeup and leather jacket!)

I really enjoyed the outfits on Big Little Lies - the specific characters really came through in their styling, and there were a lot of really fun sartorial moments in that show.

I'm with Runcarla about Queenie Goldstein's wardrobe in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I watched it again on the recent plane trip from Brisbane back to Auckland after our holiday. So looking forward to the next movie set in Paris with a younger Dumbledore!
