Fashion advice needed

I love so much fashion but struggle to 'identify' any type of style ... I end up getting overwhelmed with so many different outfits and styles that I am unable to piece together outfits for what I own

I'm going on a huge family holiday in a matter of weeks, and I just don't seem to be able to put outfits together or accessorize

I'm in desperate need of help

Actually new here so I don't even think I'm allowed to upload photos yet

Maybe you can give the forum a little more information? Where is the trip to or what the weather will be like or the activities?

Also, some person/character that you like?

I have to say, I really worked at picking a style and then worked at making myself stick to it. I do think it helpful to start with a persona. We once had an exercise here on YLF - who would you be in the zombie apocalypse? If things were stripped down to the basics and it was a free for all, what would you go for? Me - I wasn’t going to be the warrior princess. I’d be the Quirky Waif making chain mail out of soda can tabs and trying to container garden lol That’s honestly stuck. I know not to buy navy and black office suits - I have suits, but they’re not banker blue.

When my style was in flux just before joining YLF I saved pictures from Pinterest of outfits that I liked the most. I then noticed the commonality within them and went from there.

Look at what you will be doing on holiday. How long will you be gone? How are you traveling? What type of luggage are you taking? What is the weather range? Will you have time to change between activities or will your outfit need to cover your entire day?

If you pick separates try and have them work in several combinations. I’d pick 1-2 base colors, 1-2 accent colors. Accents can be a whole item or a scarf, jewelry, bag, etc. sweaters can be worn over dresses, a shirt dress can be worn as a dress, open as a topper, as a swim coverup, etc.

Try on any item you haven’t worn recently to ensure it fits, is clean and isn’t missing a button, etc.

I forgot, I start outfits with footwear, which is picked based on activities, especially how much I will be walking.

Separate from your holiday, if I was going to clean out my closet or purchase new items, I ‘d hold an item up to my hand or face and see if I look good. If not, let it go. Some colors make me look ill, some are fine, and some I look energized. Same for different patterns, for example I look best in medium sized patterns. Big patterns are horrible, small are meh.

I’d look at my life, how much time I spend doing different things, and figure out how many outfits I need in each category. And plan based on that.
