Here's what I currently have (not counting summer-only things):

25 knit tops
14 jackets
12 sweaters
9 woven tops

6 jeans
4 dresses
3 skirts
2 trousers

8 boots
4 shoes
4 coats
4 bags

MUST NOT BUY: jackets, boots, knit tops, warm sweaters

MUST BUY: woven tops, trousers, a bag

Does that sound reasonable? Keep me honest, guys! My natural tendency is to buy more boots, blazers, and knit tops, it must be resisted.

Sounds good to me. I have the same tendency to buy jackets. And more jackets.

I also love to buy skirts and dresses for the life I don't live! What I really need is coloured jeans.

Oh, I like this.

Must buy or may buy:
--Warm winter overcoat or trench with liner, not black, classic, that fits over blazers but isn't too big and frumpy-looking (like the one I have). Use existing coats & layers meanwhile. Don't settle.
--Jackets if they are of high quality and fit, updated "outfit-makers" and not just place-holders. Leather in a color such as medium taupe that works with cold spring outfits
--Booties or similar updated footwear. Elegant black flat (1/2-1') boots (short) to wear with pants, for long work days.
--Dress if not sleeveless and works for multiple medium-dressy occasions.

Must not buy:
Casual long-sleeved T's or layering t's. Fleece anything. Scarves--need to shop my scarf collection and wear or toss.

I'm a jacket addict too.

I must not buy cardigans or skirts, because I have or had too many AND I'm not wearing the ones I've kept.

Can't think of any must-buys. That's good, right?

Must not buy: blazers or outerwear; blouses, tees, knit tops; short or medium length cardigans; blue jeans; pencil skirts

May buy if perfect: colored slim pants or jeans; cropped leather jacket; jeweled collar

My only true need: hiking boots

I wish I had as much variety as you all! Im facing a cold Minnesota winter with very few warm tops/sweaters Im sick to death of wearing cooler, sleeveless tops with cardis, which has been my mainstay for far too long!

Hmm, my only must NOT buys are tank tops and boots I think. Funny ends of the spectrum there.
Need/buy - long sleeved blouses, current length pullover sweaters, and a pair of blue jeans. I am somehow down from a dozen+ pair to only 4 blue denim.
Jackets and dresses - proceed with caution. I have enough of both, but if I find just the 'right' ones to usurp others in the closet, I will do so.

I actually already have the first half of next year's 2-a-month shopping plan sketched out

I don't have any must buys but
I must NOT buy cardigans (they are just pretend jackets that never work for me).
Skirts (they are just pretend pants that almost never work for me).
Boring shoes - they never get worn by me.

Biscuitsmom, I can buy sweaters for you! There is nothing I love more than a big chunky cowlneck sweater. Totally inappropriate living in a state where people keep everything inside at 70 all winter.

That's a great exercise Cinnamon Fern. I need to get out my notebook and follow suit. I know I need to stop buying shirts that are too short to wear with jeans though! I managed to buy a bunch of long sleeved button downs over the summer. They are too warm to wear in the summer with skirts (long sleeves) and they are too short to wear with pants. My only option is to layer them under this one sheath dress I have. Hmmmm. Maybe I could chop off the sleeves?

I am addicted to jackets and blazers and recently did a count of over 30... I must not buy anymore! Coats and boots are in the must not buy either as last year I over did those categories.

Must buys are more colored heels, booties or shooties, pants of all kinds as I lose weight...

After I bought (another) polka dot scarf tonight, I counted. It's my second black with white dots and fourth polka dot scarf, and ninth black and white/gray/cream scarf and 49th or 50th scarf. I need to stop. But I really DO wear scarves a LOT, esp. for a person with a short neck. Not all are in active rotation, and I confess that I have a couple that I have never worn.

I don't own ANY sleeved/winter dresses and haven't for a number of years, and only own four dresses that I only purchased this past year. I think I would like to try a couple of casual ones for fun. But since I haven't really missed their absence, I'm not sure this is a *must buy*.
