Fall outdoor wedding outfit? And a couple of WIWs

We will be attending an outdoor wedding in the midwest in a couple of weeks, so who knows what the weather will bring by then. My usual standby burgundy dress may not cut it warmth wise, so I hope this outfill will work if necessary. I think I've included a couple of Angie's fall "must haves" with this - fluid fit and mixed media. I found the top at TJ Maxx a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it even though I need to sew on a missing button. The stockings have been in my drawer for a few years, but the pattern does resemble Angie's recent find.

The shoes are the Ara Tricia(or Tala, I can't remember) in a brown patent with a very subtle black leopard pattern. For those of you who may remember the camel Lands End booties from a couple of weeks back, they were returned because of the heel height. These Ara's are so much better on my feet I believe I'm more apt to wear them.

Picture 1 is Cable and Gauge mixed media top, Halogen pencil skirt, Ara Tricia booties and AT thrifted clutch. Also added a shot of the Brooks Brothers trench with my leopard scarf.

Picture 3 is another clutch option.

Picture 3 is my trusty burgundy dress, this time with a blouse layered underneath.

Picture 4 is a couple of WIWs from the recent cooler weather. The first is a partial of my recent fall capsule. The slacks are black knit rather than bootcut denim and the belt is different. The second is a new combination with my AT cardigan. I hadn't thought of trying this particular stripe shirt with it, but think it works ok as far as pattern mixing. It is a bit sweet with the peach pants but oh well Maybe I need to scowl to offset the sweetness. The third is a linen LE tee that stretches out quite a bit which can be quite bothersome. I'm contemplating returning it under their guarantee.

Is the skirt and mixed media top combination too casual? I'll add some earrings but am quite happy with no other jewelry except the cuff. I think there will be a little of everything at this wedding. We are also heading to Chicago the next morning, so the top, booties and coat would fit nicely into my weekend capsule.

Do you think the black, gray and brown palatte play well together?

Are the leopard scarf and clutch too much?

I really like your new top. Very subdued and sophisticated. I love how it dips down in back. And wowee, look at those new booties and stockings! This is a really nice outfit. Love the clutch, too!

I am not sure if this would be formal enough for a wedding, though. On the other hand, how formal can people expect if they hold it outdoors in October, for heaven's sake? So perhaps this is absolutely right.

I have to admit that I slightly prefer the dress for this event -- partly because the colour reads as "happier" to me, and for a wedding that feels important. Does that make sense?

I really like the outfit with the new top. I attended a wedding last weekend and every second person was in black. If you can check the dress code to make sure this is dressy enough I say go for it as it is super chic.

Pill, I love the first outfit with the lace hose. It's killer. I'm just unsure about whether it's dressy enough for a wedding. It looks more like an outfit for work. But then this might be a casual wedding. And I always dress up for weddings. So take my advice for what it's worth. You know the setting better than I do.

As for the wedding, I like the red dress. The new top looks really cool, but it doesnt read as festive to me. Than again, it does read very much elegant and refined while still being up to date. So I dont know! I have a wedding next weekend and cant decide really either! (But I am glad to see you thinking about the knee boots, I am thinking Ill need mine for the outdoor venue too)

LOVE #1 with the leopard clutch. It looks wedding appropriate to me--especially for an outdoor wedding.

The brown/black/grey palette totally works. Great casual outfits too. I like the pattern mixing--perhaps white jeans would lessen the sweetness if it bothers you. Looks great to me though. 1 with the Siriano blazer is my fave--love that jacket on you!

#1 is a stunning outfit pil. I also question if it is dressy enough for a wedding, but you know the setting. Would your dress work with the trench and scarf for the outdoor ceremony? Is the reception in doors??

If the wedding is all outdoors and it's cool then I do actually think the first outfit with the coat and scarf kept on might be suitable.

Um. A midwestern wedding in October --- outdoors? I'm guessing it will be more casual, and I certainly hope the current weather pattern holds! The burgundy is dressier, so I'd wear it if you'll be warm enough, but I wouldn't hesitate to wear the first outfit, either - it's a gorgeous, modern outfit. You look terrific!

I've been wearing my white jeans constantly this September, and yours fit beautifully and are quite flattering. I remember #1 from your first post and think it's one of your strongest. Brava! I must admit to mixed feelings about the second look ---I like it, but I'm unsure about the combo of pastel with floral. I love the the pants and cardi, but I'd be tempted to see what the cardi looks like with the white pants. Just my two cents.

I think I would add a necklace or two to #1 for the wedding and you would be good to go for cooler temps - the burgundy dress would be great if it's not so cool. Midwesterners in my memory are pretty casual people. Outdoors in October may mean beautiful autumn weather or it could rain/sleet. I think you are right to be prepared for either.

I'm going to be a spanner and say that I think the black outfit looks much dressier than the burgundy. Is the burgundy a jersey?

I love that fab blue blazer, but I also think you could pull off one of the longer modern one button blazer that we've been seeing around here. I'd love to see that on you.

Angie, thanks for the K rating! The dress would have been a no-brainer if the wedding wasn't going to be outside. I don't have anything fancier than that though.

I need to do more reconnaisance on the venue. I don't know the bride so can't really ask her. The ceremony is outdoors while the reception is on a covered patio with curtains and space heaters if necessary. If I go with the burgundy dress and blouse I could always wear a cami too. The weather may end up making my final decision

@Suz, lately I find myself preferring a more subdued palette once I see my photos. But yes, the burgundy dress is definitely more wedding like.

@Liz, yes the burgundy dress is a jersey knit. Thanks for the suggestion of the longer jacket, I have never considered that! I've always thought I'm too short and fluffy at 5'4"
