Fall loot part 2: Another day, another potential infatuation

Day two of fall loot shipments turned up today. One of the items I was most excited about turned out to be a bust. The blue trench I had such hopes for is made of a material that just doesn't cut it, as far as I'm concerned. Certainly not for that price, anyway...But unless I'm very much mistaken, they made amends with the dress I ordered! It feels amazing and I foresee a lot of use for a piece like this.
The delightful man who runs the store in the basement of my building was kind enough to take the pictures, since Corey is attending his first ever Master's class. Turns out the store owner enjoys taking pics, so I'm posting the various angles he shot. Please note that I made n o attempt to style this properly and am not even wearing shapewear, so please adjust your thinking accordingly. I have no issue wearing shapeware regularly, so that's not a concern.

I now await your verdict...and I promise I'll oblige if you say this sucks and needs to go back.

The colour is a rich, very slightly blue-red (on my monitor). Extremely flattering to your complexion. The neckline is elegant on you, showcasing your face. And the dress itself looks very comfortable, in addition to everything else.

Wow, you are set for some holiday parties in that dress. But you can also dress it down really easily.

So sorry about the coat; that would have been too perfect to be true, I guess. Oh well, at least this one is a hit.

Wow!!! I think this dress looks great, great cut, great color and great length.. Is it the one from Igigi? I've never ordered from them. Does it run true to size? What didn't you like about the trench fabric? That's too bad because I bet that trench would look great on you too.

Michelle, I hope that you feel amazing in that dress. You look STUNNING. Everything about this dress works on you - the phenomenal color with your porcelain skin, the wide neckline, the gentle but not exaggerated twist at the bust, the sleevelength - shapewear isn't even on my radar when I'm looking at these photos. Sophistication with a capital S!

I'm going to be a teeny spanner, as Angie says. While I love the color and the drape of the fabric looks lovely, I feel like this particular empire waist, faux wrap style is slightly aging on you and sort of emphasizes the girls. I remember a recent blue patterned sheath dress that was miles ahead of this one, if I'm recalling it correctly. Just my two cents, of course!!

Jonesy, very interesting. What do you find aging about the waistline?

It's interesting...This dress feels in may ways olike a winter version of the turquoise dress that became a go-to item in my summer wardrobe. The waist detail and fall of the skirt seem similar. Am I way off?

For me, it's the combo of the empire with the deep V-neck and wrap styling, if that makes sense?

I see what Jonesy sees! I have a similar dress but in black which I wear rarely. I can't put my finger on it but I feel it creates a somewhat matronly look, however on another level it's a very flattering shape. I am wondering if different accessories might work. Rather than pearls maybe something that contrasts with the dress, something a little funky to create an edge. A necklace that is longer than the pearls would be good. I am not saying return, I think I'm just saying some styling to bring it to perfection (I note that you haven't attempted to style it)

I don't see that it's aging. I think that wrap styling is very pretty and flattering. I think the color is stunning. I feel like the look could use a bracelet on your left hand.

FWIW, I love to see you in patterned dresses, I feel like they are very flattering but I know it can get old to wear only patterns.

Michelle, it's just lovely on you! To my eye this is a very "Michelle" dress and I know you will get a lot of wear and enjoyment out of it. It is a very classic style, but also very flattering and versatile.

I'm wearing it today, though with the tag still on and tucked down the back. I've paired it with diamond-patterned tights, the uber-long pearl strand worn as a tripple-row necklace and with a big knot hanging low down, black mock croc wedges, pewter bag and my leather moto jacket as a topper when I go outside. Jonesy and Deborah, I really appreciate your advice to add some edge to this one, and I will certainly work on that some more. Modgrl, I almost put on my silver leaf bracelet this morning instead of my necklace and will certainly use that piece another time.

I think this dress will be very versatile for you, Michelle. I don't see aging or bust emphasis at all.
But I'm a fellow Classic rooted gal, so perhaps I'm a bit biased.

Michelle, my reaction also might have to do with my slight personal bias toward structured dresses vs. flowy jersey ones. Also, in comparing the blue one you wore a lot this summer to the new red one, I see that the blue one has shorter sleeves, less exposure across the chest, a scoop neck vs. a deep V, a nice wide waistband that defines your waist, and some gathering across the chest. All of these attributes make it lovely for you, IMHO.

This time last year I had invested in a red dress that was the very first of the items that make me, as you had so cleverly said, want to hug my wardrobe. Just have to chime in here and say that the colour of the dress is stunning. I do love the sound of how you have styled it (cheeky wearing it, but not cutting the tags!).

I think that Jonesy does have a point, it does look good, but not as good as the blue summer version. I think adding edge with shoes and jewellery will help with this. Will go well with boots in winter.
