Faking Boyfriend jeans + heels

So I love the look of boyfriends + heels, but it is not at all compatible with my MOTG lifestyle (2 under 4). I took a break from my hunt for the perfect bootie and instead experimented with this look: the boyfriend + ankle-strap wedge pump. I could wear this well through fall in my climate.
The ankle strap wedge pump is not the easiest shoe to find, but I hunted down the following two (See in Finds). They are pretty equivalent in price and comfort. The strap on the burgundy shoes are significantly higher on the ankle ( I had to roll up an extra roll for them to be visible).

The comfort level for both is A+. I can actually run easily in these shoes, a key requirement since my 3 year old is speedy..

How does it look, though? Are the thick straps unflattering? I would prefer to keep just one, and I do wear a lot of red/plum. But I wonder if the gray is more versatile and more flattering since it less contrasty.

Love the plum with the outfit. The grey is a bit bland.

The plum looks great, and it's a good solution, I do the same with ankle strap wedge sandals and wedge mary janes that I can wear for hours. The gray works if it's an essential wardrobe color, but otherwise, I'd go with the burgundy/plum -- with ankle straps I think the contrast with skin adds to the appeal and I particularly like wide ankle straps (personal preference for both things).

Thanks bj111- I do find the gray a bit bland as well, and probably a bit tougher to keep clean as well.
rabbit- I wish I had thought of it earlier- this is the first time I've triad an ankle strap on anything other than a sandal or evening shoe. Interesting that you find the contrast appealing- I think I'm still stuck in the mindset of flattering the legline by not "cutting" too often with horizontal lines. But I can definitely see how it's better to go all-out rather than have the strap be too subtle.

I tried styling the plum wedges a few other ways and they do seem versatile- they can go under bootcuts with just the toe visible or with skinnies scrunched down over the straps. And the color is more of a dark plum and not too red, so it works with magenta (I have more plum and magenta than true reds in my wardrobe)

I also really like the plum - I think it could be an "almost" neutral depending on the rest of your wardrobe. I also prefer a slightly wider ankle strap because I know the thin ones are not comfortable so when I see them on others I immediately am reminded of that fact.

Me too--I love the plum! I think they look great. I'm a big wedge fan for pretty much the same reason you are. I have young kiddos and speed matters! I bet another fab option would be exactly what you are wearing in pic 1 plus a bulkier cardigan. You are small enough that it would look fun, intentional and flattering.

Thumbs up from me! Great outfit, and perfect adaptation of the formula for your needs. As for which shoe you should keep, that's certainly subjective. If it were me I would keep the gray because I like low contrast footwear, and light footwear in particular; it doesn't show the ankle strap as nicely though. The plum is a great softer high contrast option, and will be good for bookending if that's your preference. Do you like wearing colorful shoes, and do you have other colorful options?

I think both outfits look outstanding, though I prefer the one with the plum shoes. The plum shoes just seem to look more streamlined or something. But it probably depends on what will go with what in your closet.

texstyle- the straps are quite comfy and are actually velcro- super convenient for one-handed on-and-off and also easier to fit since I have smaller ankles
K.period- I think I do have a boyfriend cardigan in that color that I will need to hunt down (it's hiding among all of my sweaters which haven't come out for fall yet). Thanks for the suggestion!
Aida- I don't actually own many colorful shoes at all but I am trying to up the impact of my footwear- for the most part my shoes are pretty bland and neutral
Firecracker- thanks! the toe is a bit pointier on the plumones, although also a bit higher in the toebox, such that they are actually a bit comfier than the almond-shaped toe of the grey ones (rarely is the pointier toe more comfortable in my experience!)
Gigi - the knit blazer was from NAS (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ca.....are&c). I don't think it's available in that color anymore but Caslon comes out with a slight variation on the style every year (and I have a small but growing collection),

Angie has a formula for ankle straps and ankle pants, with a strip of skin showing in between. I think these photos look great, but you could also try the pants just a little longer per the formula if you like. I love the plum and think it's much better for fall, just personal taste though.

If you wear jeans a lot, definitely the grey ones. They look amazing with your outfit.

I think your rolls with the burgundy pairs are too high. Try a smaller roll/fold so there is less skin showing and a smaller horizontal fold. The bigger fold works well with the grey shoes as the fold better matches the grey.

Gorgeous burgundy shoes! I like the grey too, but the burgundy ones blow me away. Can you tell me if they are true to size, and if they'd fit a narrow foot?

Aquamarine - I find the burgundy wedges to run a bit wide - I have normal to wide feet and they are comfortable for me with a smidge of room on the side. Unfortunately, looks like they are not available in a narrow. But the gray ones are a bit narrower and are available in a narrow - they are available in some rich colors as well as gray, including a cobalt, a chocolate and a leopard print.

I really like this whole look! That's such a cool shoe shape, and I don't think I'd seen anything like it before. I could see either color working, but especially like the plum.

I like both these colors but the cranberry goes do well with what you are wearing. If these are truly comfortable for MOTG, can you keep both? The grey looks fabulous with jeans and seems more leg lengthening if that is a concern.

I am ALL about lengthening the leg line, but somehow I like the plum ones more than the grey! Isn't that funny? If one pair is decidedly more comfortable than the other though, I'd let that make the decision for me. You look like such a fun, fashionable MOTG. I don't know how you do it with little ones.
