Fair Isle tights?

For some reason I am craving some patterned sweater tights. Like these:

And I am thinking of wearing them with my new Sam Edelman Circus oxfords, which are dark, almost navy patent blue (rather than black) but still with a black sole as shown:

The rest of my outfit would be a simple black sheath dress (the Alfred Sung one from Costco that a few people have - it's a good weight knit), cardigan in navy or dark burgundy, possibly a leopard patterned grey scarf. Basically pretty low key so the tights would be the star. I'm already wearing this outfit with grey chevron-patterned tights. I am just having trouble deciding if the fair isle tights are too juvenile for 40yo me, and the look will be silly, and of course I can't return tights if they don't work.

Should I be looking for fair isle tights for my young DDs instead of myself?!?

Love this idea! I hope you go for it. I bet it will look great on you will paired with a simple sheath.

I think the tights are nice looking and not juvenile, but my concern with thick horizontal stripes on tights is that they seem to make legs look short. But I have short legs, so I might be overly concerned about this.

I like your idea for showcasing the tights, and the grey chevron tights outfit sounds great. Like Gigi, I wonder if the wide horizontal stripes that you're considering would shorten, rather than elongate your legs.

Hmmm good point. I wasn't 'seeing' the overall bold striped effect (it's not so obvious in the package because you only see a small stretch of pattern). Good eye fabbers, thank you. I'll keep looking for interesting sweater tights and maybe satisfy the fair isle craving in a different piece.

I say - go for it! It sounds like a really interesting look, and certainly not too young, rather fun and funky! Not sure what kind of legs you have, but if the sheath dress comes to your knees, I can't see that the horizontal stripes will be an issue.

I find print tights are great way to vav up simple styling. Too old? I say never.

How about these instead? No thick stripes anywhere and Uniqlo is supposed to be very warm. I like the navy!

Ooh I like those ones Astrid - especially in navy! But I am not sure if we can get uniqlo in Canada. I am keeping my eye out for a better pair than the Hue ones, which were never really exactly what I wanted just what I found in the stores. Which to be fair were 3 different locations of the same chain (Legs Beautiful), they just happen to be the most convenient for me. But PPP must prevail
