Fade to Grey (or not)

I noticed today (in the sun) that the black checks in my old black and purple plaid shirt are olive green. Not so bad I guess as my preferred color currently is olive green Has anyone else experienced black fading to olive green and not grey? Maybe it is the purple overlay...

I have had black fade to a brown base - alas not a colour that looks good on me.

Yes! I find blacks can have unexpected undertones to them, that can show up either when they fade, or when worn with other blacks that have different ones. Colour is endlessly fascinating isn't it?

Bijoux, I have also had blacks fade to brown.
TG and Sal, colour is fascinating. I did notice my shirt is made in India, where vegetable dye is used, so maybe that is the cause. My hubs has a black leather jacket made in India that is wearing green.

I have noticed this sort of thing. Colour IS fascinating - and dye and pigments are their own ball of wax. The difference between going to buy ink for your printer v paints to paint a picture... it’s like that.

I've had black fade to dark burgundy before. Yes, it's weird. At that point, I usually pass it on.

I've had navy blue that turned red where bleach spilled on it.

My blacks tend to fade to a grey or a dull black, which is actually more flattering to me than a really black black.

Joy, I agreed - faded blacks can be more flattering.

YES. I have seen this happen to black items. Does the item look too worn?

Angie, that is the thing - it doesn't look worn at all, just looks olive in the sun, not patchy or anything like that. So I am just going to keep it for my olive capsule :).
