Fab or Frumpy?

After Angie's post today, maybe florals aren't completely relegated to my Great Aunt Gertrude.

I really liked this cashmere sweater when I saw it, but I passed on it assuming floral=frumpy. While not a jacket like Angie posted, I thought maybe I might have been wrong.

What do you think? Is this frumpy?

Not frumpy, but I do feel like a pullover would be more on-trend. I feel like the combo of cardi and floral is a little riskier. But that's just gut feeling and I will be interested to hear what others say...

I wish the pattern came in a pullover, but it never did. Sounds like I was right to be cautious on this!

I think it could go either way Thistle - would depend on what you paired with it and how you wore it. Beautiful colours though.

I really like the floral pattern on this and don't think it makes it frumpy. I think it will come down to how you wear it. I have a hard time styling cardigans in a non-frumpy manner.

It's not necessarily frumpy but I think I'd pass and put the budget towards something you feel really more certain about wearing in your wardrobe. Unless it's not all that expensive and you want to experiment some with different patterns, etc. The colors are pretty so I can see your attraction. If you wore it with jeans tucked into boots for example, I don't think that would be frumpy. I think it would need to have some "edge" in the outfit for it to work in a modern way. You could also weare it as the model is with white pants --- maybe some great strappy sandals with a slight heel.

It could be tricky, but the pattern placement is on the less-frumpy side. Uneven patterns are usually unfrumpy to my eye.

I like the floral pattern and the colors, but the style of cardigan is so classic that it's borderling frumpy.

I think it's frumpy. But it's not the floral, it's the cardigan itself. Too boxy.

Thistle I think it's worth a try on. I bat for team floral, team cardigan, team classic but unfortunately also for team frumpy. I am an apple with strong IT tendencies, here is something that I wear that is very similar. It looks a lot better with scrunched sleeves but I am also cold all the time so even if I scrunch the sleeves usually come down to full length.

So, I love the pattern. I kow it would look nice on. BUT I don't think I can get the Cardigan to de-frump, so my first instincts were right. Too bad they didn't make this pattern in a pullover!

I am often attracted to cardis like this (the Garnet Hill catalog, for instance) but find them much too classic for me, and hard to style. I've given all my crewneck cardis to consignment. So not frumpy, but definitely classic.

Hmmm Thistle I'm going to say frumpy, or at least border line. If you want a floral I think you will be able to find something better.

I think this one can go either way but it is borderline frumpy, just because the pattern is more realistic as opposed to graphic. I think a more graphic floral can be a good addition to your wardrobe, however.

*gulp* those don't look so frumpy to me. Not UWP, but not frumpy either.

Probably a good idea for me to just stay away from cardis for a while

I think Una hit it on the head that the crewneck cardis are difficult to de-frump. Vneck cardis are much easier to work with, IMO.

Maybe you can look for a floral jacket instead. My floral cardis always get paired with a stripe or small check for pattern mixing in hopes of defrumping.

I love the floral patern and the colour but don't have much experience at styling. My floral cardi is black and pink and I usually just wear it with black T and black pants.
