Stopped in a local boutique that has a weird array of items,
from too young to too frumpy, but has some brands not found in other stores, so
I go a couple times year to break out of the AT satellite orbit.
On the 70% off rack I stumbled across this skirt. Front is brown (kind of brown + black)
leather and back is black ponte knit. It’s a maker I was not familiar with—Donna Degnan.
I’m kind of in love. So many boxes ticked—the fit is a good skimming, not overly- tapered pencil. Length is mid-knee,
amazingly not too short. Leather color is what cinches—I’d likely not wear a
black leather skirt (except for fun) but the brown is softer, and also it’s
this kind of crackle finish, which I think gives it another notch of approachability
and also maybe more forgiving of minor wear and tear.
Also in back is this cool zipper to adjust the vent, though
I probably will not utilize its full extent!
What say the fabbers? Do you think its being leather only on
the front half is weird or cheap? It’s not going to be a weekly skirt, but it
seems classic and, I hope, tasteful, while being fun.
Then, the other item I found there is this oversized drapey pullover. I had
sworn I was not going to get any super-sized or unusual sweaters—just boxy or
fluid—but here it was. This is the "low" to the above "high"—it’s an acrylic knit.. Again what sold me are the particulars—it has
an asymmetrical drape instead of a horizontal line, and folds in on itself well, and is just long enough in
front (many are too cropped for my long torso). I think it’s an inexpensive way to have fun with
the trend, whereas I was not drawn to invest in a cashmere version.
