Eyelashes + eyebrows

Further to Angie's post on eye make up.....has anyone tried castor oil applied to eyelashes + eyebrows? It's purported to promote hair growth. Just wondering if it will help with my less than impressive eyelashes!

I'm wondering abou this too. My eyebrows are OK, but my eyelashes are on the stubby side.

Castor oil has helped my eyebrows regrow where they were over-plucked and at the tails. I tend to slack off, but now I am trying to be conscientious so that I get enough growth so that I don't have to use eyebrow pencil.

Castor oil started to give me bumps by my lashes plus made my sight blurry when I tried to watch the news after I applied it. If I had more motivation I would use those cotton swabs that are pointy at one end for my lashes and blunt at the other for my brows.

FWIW, when I was younger, okay make that young, I had thick lashes and brows. I don't know if the castor oil is more effective if you are trying to restore what was lost.

I started trying to add some castor oil to my eyelashes last week, but after two days, I forgot about it! I need to write myself a note.

DonnaF, how long was it before you noticed a difference?

Gigi, I think it took several weeks or even a month before I noticed a difference in my eyebrows. I would check MakeupAlley.com for reviews of castor oil to see what most folks said. Initially, I used it for my eyebrow tail which is fine now. Then, I decided I wanted more hair on the area of my brows closer to my nose. That seems to be taking longer maybe because it involves more hair but I AM noticing some difference.

Second note: I suffer from systemic sclerosis, aka scleroderma, which seems to have affected my hair follicles. I've lost most hair on my fingers and toes, arms, legs, and armpits. My head, lashes, and brows seem not to be affected, but who knows?

My hairdresser swears that applying coconut oil to your scalp will thicken your hair. Maybe it would also work for eyebrows. Heck, I should try it! My eyebrows are sparse.

Yes, I tried the castor oil years ago to my eyebrows and yes it worked. Once they grew in where they were sparse I stopped. I never had thick eyebrows to begin with, so I still pencil in.

If I remember correctly, use the cold press castor oil for results.

I use the cheap CVS castor oil as I don't know where I'd find cold press. Amazon? I just opened a new bottle of castor oil yesterday, however, and that's likely to last me decade unless I get clumsy and knock over what I have. Don't laugh.
