Extended sleeves and post-apocalyptic looks

So when I said I love certain versions of the extra-long sleeve, I was thinking specifically of this brand Mandula, which I can't afford but adore. See images below. There is something so texturally appealing to me about the fitted scrunched sleeve - like a leg warmer for the arm!

What are your thoughts? Or is this not part of the trend?

Yes! Like arm warmers! I like this kind of look. Maybe it's my urban environment. It works here.

Love! I want that jacket in no 2. I love the feel as well as the look. It's funny that Rachy mentions arm warmers. I noticed some athletes wearing them during the Olympics and I thought: hmmm, arm warmers, nice! You can enjoy warm arms with extended sleeves and a cold shoulder. Double trend. They are all over etsy of course.

Love how the sleeves look in these examples. They look more natural somehow than in most of the examples Angie posted. Slouchy comfy long rather than forced.

Never heard of her, thanks for the introduction. And yes you can afford this designer if you commit to buying fewer pieces of everything else. If you like the designer and feel there is a consistent vision, you can add pieces each year and they will work together. I do think you have to commit to certain colors though. You should start by checking out eBay.

I mentioned this in Angie's blog comment area, that Rick Owens has been designing with extended sleeves for some time. I ordered a leather jacket 2.5 years ago and returned it because the sleeves were so freaking long. Then, 1.5 I began collecting. At first I wanted to cut off all of the sleeves but then I just ran with it. All of his sleeves are scrunchable or foldable, which this designer's are too.

Wow, I like all these creations very much! From the internet I see that this is a Hungarian designer who worked for Romeo Gigli. Now that I think, I can recognize some Romeo Gigli vibe. I can see you very well in these outfits.

Hm, I have a bandage sleeve tunic on the back burner. Maybe it should go into the winter collection. Thanks for posting!

I like these sleeves too, Una. Long sleeves that can easily be scrunched (and will stay put!) are much more workable than long bell sleeves or structured cuffs.

Hmm, I'm a fan of fingerless gloves, which can give a similar impression to extended sleeves. I wonder if those might trend again.

Yes! Love! Arm warmers and scrunched extra-long sleeves always give me "artist in a garrett" imagery, which I love, even though, in reality, there's nothing at all romantic about freezing and struggling to pay rent.

I have a lot of issues with scrunched sleeves staying properly scrunched, because of the shape of my arms (skinny at the wrist/forearm but thicker at the upper arm so sleeves are rarely tight enough at the bottom to stay scrunched).

I have this plan this winter to knit some fair isle fingerless mitts/arm warmers with thumb holes to wear over long sleeved tops. I figure they can be removed or pushed up my arm when I need to have my whole hand uncovered (like when washing hands or wearing lab gloves). Inspired by this free people alpine cuff top that Brooklyn has.

Diana, I have that same top, one in cream (stays at the ranch as it's a little clingy and I wear it layered) and one in dark grey. I've had them for years! They are so cozy and LONG. Not only in the sleeves but in the body too. Good for cold weather.

I'm glad you all like these too. Deb, I can totally see you in these looks! And Denise, you are right about collecting although I don't know that I can commit wholesale to this kind of look given all the variables in my life. One or two pieces could be fun for sure. Rick Owens and also Helmut Lang came to mind too.

I love dystopian looks, and I'm in love with these sleeves. Some of the really exaggerated ones bring to mind garments that have been stretched out by lots of abuse in a post-apocalyptic world, which is exactly the kind of stuff that I would love to wear all the time (but probably can't because it isn't always practical for daily living). Great for cold, rainy, winter days when I'm trapped inside snuggled under a blanket binge watching netflix with my little doggie, though
