Express order, K/R - YouLookFab Forum

I ordered a bunch of stuff from Express (end of year sale). Some of these items I have been interested in trying for a while and was waiting for a sale. I need to return at least one item so I'll definitely be driving to the store. Feel free to critique ruthlessly since I'll be returning stuff anyway and would like to take back anything that is not a "10".

#1 - blue silk shirt. #2 - cropped, boxy sweater. I thought it might be a fun silhouette to try but I am not sure if I like it. #3 - square silk scarf. I have been meaning to add a square scarf to my scarf collection; I still need to work on scarf tying skills. The color scheme is very classic - red, white, balck and gold, and I kind of like the "retro" vibe. #4 - another square scarf, orange and turquoise with bird feather designs. #5 - infinity scarf. Has a bit of shiny thread in it so I was worried it would be over the top for me (I don't normally do "sparkle") but I think I like it. I am returning an ivory silk shirt that is the "twin" of the shirt in #1 - it was completely transparent.

I also think I may need to bite the bullet and take the Halogen skirt in #1 to the tailor to be taken in. I saw that Una had hers altered and it looked great. I cannot size down in the waist so I guess taking it in on the sides is a good idea.

Finally, #6 is Cookie Johnson Grace bootcut in merlot size down from #7 - the size I originally got keeps sliding down - too stretchy. Does the smaller size look too tight or OK?

Ooh, love the blue blouse. It's fab on you! Fit and sleeve length look good. I'm not sure about the sweater in 2. It looks like it is suppose to be oversized but I'm not sure if it is too boxy in the body or not. I do like it with the cobalt skinnies. Can't go wrong with the scarves--they look lovely. From what I can see, it looks like the new merlot jeans fit you well. Yummy color!

I like the infinity scarf the best, its very nice! I do think it would pop more with edgier styling (perhaps more contrast with the other pieces?). I think the pants in 7 look better fitting than 6. 1 may work out, but I think it looks so-so styled as it is. I think since it's rather basic, it needs something else with it.

So in summary, I'd keep the scarf (5) but I don't think anything else is an absolute 10. I think you could find more fab pieces!

The silk shirt and the scarves look great to me. The two red scarves are a bit alike so you might want to pick one if you don't wan to keep everything. The boxy sweater is supposed to be like that I believe. It might look good with a white button down under it. I don't see anything wrong with 7 in terms of shape, but you can do better in terms of coloring I think.

Great haul! The only thing I'm not sure about is the infinity scarf in #5 - not sure about those colors near your face. But the rest is awesome, esp. the blue silk top. I think I prefer the jeans in the smaller size, too.

I like both scarves a lot; try pairing the infinity scar with a top/blazer/sweater that contrasts with it greatly. It's hard to tell about the fit of the jeans as your top is a bit long to assess the full fit. That being said, #7 looks like a slightly better fit than #6 (without seeing the very top of either).

Love #1 and # 5 in particular. The other two scarves are not as great to my eye, tho the colors are good.

The blue blouse is beautiful. I prefer you in the brighter colors (not so much the muted infinity scarf) I like the scarf tie on the left in photo #3 best (opens up your neck) The smaller jeans look great (and I assume they stretch a bit so those are my pick) The boxy sweater is a lovely color, it looks better with the slimmer pants (and maybe once you tailor that skirt), but it's not a 10 on you. I have trouble with that shape as well although I keep trying to find the right one. Lots of nice items in this haul!

The only thing I don't like is #2. I don't think it's drapey enough for the swingy shape. It just looks kind of bulky. LOVE the blud blouse!

my vote for keeps are 1,2,and 5. I know scarves are a matter of personal style preference, but I do prefer the infinity scarf on you. The new jeans are fab too!

I ordered the blue blouse too! Maybe we'll be blouse twins. Seeing your #5 makes me wish I had ordered the infinity scarf as well.

I also like the croppy sweater, but if you don't feel fab in a boxy sweater, return.

The jeans in #6 look similar in fit to #7; it's difficult to judge fit in a dark picture. So keep the most comfortable. From the pic, #6 does not look too tight in the smaller size....

Hi Stephanie, I am glad you ordered the blouse, too! The color is beautiful. I'll need to check it carefully in the daylight to make sure it is not sheer- its "sister" blouse in ivory was embarrassingly transparent but the blue one does not seem to have the same problem. I hope it fits you and it will be fun to figure out some styling ideas for it. I agree with Jyoti that the blouse might need to be styled better (perhaps with a jacket over it) but because the color is so strong and distinct, it is a bit tricky to find a topper for it.

Jj, I totally agree, I usually go for bright colors for myself. That's actually why I decided to try the infinity scarf - I have a lot of bright scarves but nothing in the neutral tones so I thought it might be interesting to try it.

I am going back and forth on the red sweater and silk scarves. The color and shape of the sweater are fun but it is pretty thick, sort of fisherman-style knit - that's why it does not drape well. I can also see that tying and wearing square silk scarves can be challenge but I think it might be fun to learn how to do it while keeping the neck relatively open to avoid looking like I have no neck. Maybe I'll follow LoP's advice and keep just one silk scarf for practice. I am seriously considering getting a scarf ring so that I can practice various knots from MaiTai collection.

I vote keep #1 and the scarves. Looks fabulous!

I also like the smaller size in the Merlot jeans. Go for it!
