Experimenting with wide cropped pants

After reading today's blog post, I decided to try wearing my wide crops in a more casual, less conventionally flattering way than I have before. I came up with some different tops and shoes to combine with them, and the results are shown in the photos.

A couple of notes: Since I'm 5'2" and short-waisted, it's been challenging to find a top which appears cropped on me. All the tops used in this exercise, with the exception of one, have been tucked in, some more loosely than others, which I felt looked sufficiently casual. I left the lowest contrast top untucked, just to see if I could be okay with it that way. I'm positive it's not flattering, but it was certainly comfortable.

Also, I apologize for the terrible lighting in these photos. The pants I'm wearing are a dark wash denim, not black. The striped t-shirt is white, black, and burgundy. The untucked top is dark blue, with a white, red, and bronze pattern on it. Lastly, the paisley shirt (which isn't technically a t-shirt) is a bright, vivid blue with lots of gold, red, and white. The gladiator sandals I wore with it are bronze.

I see that you're having lighting issues like mine. However I like the overall silhouette on you. I am 5'4" and also short waisted. Sometimes items that call themselves crop tops are just fine for me (I only do exposed waistline skin at the beach).

Angie, it might be possible to take the photos that way, but I'm afraid it will put the mirror at an awkward angle since it'll have to be moved. I'll give it a try, though.

I like all of these Sarah, though I do favor the tucked versions. I am with you--tops aren't short enough to really be cropped on short-waisted me. So a bloused tuck or semi-tuck is my usual solution. I like the cropped jeans with both ballet flats, two sneaker styles, and the gladiator sandals--super cute all ways.

Thank you, JAileen and Firecracker. Firecracker, one of the best things about conducting this experiment was realizing that I can wear these pants with flat shoes!

I love the striped top look, with either shoes! It's perfect.

Does your phone camera have a timer? I've recently started putting my phone on a shelf with the camera timer set to 10 seconds, and I figured out where to stand to get a good shot most times. My mirror was in an awkward place. It's just a bit more hassle of walking back and forth to see if the shot came out ok.

I can see that look 1 works because it is low contrast, but would be harder if that was a light shirt.

I love 2 the best, but 3 and 4 also look great.

I have the same problem with light when I use my iphone because of the placement of our mirror (and it's non the wall so I can't move it.) So I try to use my tripod and the DSLR when I can. Only problem is, my daughter often has it, which means no photos. It is possible to lighten the photos up some, though -- which I do before posting. It helps to a degree.

Thanks so much for the very kind words, everyone! I appreciate the suggestions about taking photos. I definitely need to check my phone to see if there's a timer on the camera--I don't remember seeing that option, but it's entirely possible I've just overlooked it. While I don't have a camera other than my phone (which takes lovely photos in the proper light) or a tripod, I have been thinking about other places in my apartment where I could move my mirror when I'm taking photos where the light *might* be better. One of those places is my little galley kitchen, so there's a chance that you might see a stove or fridge in the background the next time I post a photo.
