Experimenting with new dress (and WIW)

Last week I received a shawl as a gift with a purchase and the same day I bought a dress somewhere else. I thought they would make a good combination so I am wearing them today (picture 1).
Picture 1:
No Man's Land dress
No Man's Land woolen cardigan
Romano shawl
HEMA cotton tights
Gabor booties

I also tried some other combinations:
picture 2: same outfit, scarf over cardigan
Picture 3: same outfit sans cardigan
Picture 4: black jersey-like jacket
Picture 5: leather jacket
Picture 5: dress with grey opaque panty-hose

What do you think about the variations? Which work, which don't work or need some tweeking?
I apologize for the blurry pictures, I can't do them again as there is no daylight anymore...

Hi there Heleen! I think this is the first time I've ever *seen* you. It's nice to put a face to the name.

Anyway, I love your new dress and shawl. I think all of these outfits work quite nicely. The monochromatic neutrals look good on you, the dress looks cozy and flatters your figure. The leather blazer in 5 was a nice surprise, and changes up the dress with the soft with hard edge look. You look fab!

Like Claire, I think all of these version work very well. My only suggestion is I prefer the jacket open to show more of that stunning dress and give you that "column of colour" look that Angie speaks about.

I think they all look great. I'm not a big fan of the one with the scarf, but I'm not a huge scarf fan. I think I like pics 4 and 5 the best.

This dress is sensational on you, Helen, and I agree that it is fun to pair it with the shawl. It is very versatile (the dress, I mean) and works well with all these jackets. I prefer the jackets left open, as Shannon suggested. What a beautiful pattern. One would never tire of it.

That is so interesting, I thought 4 and 5 were the lesser options. My problem is that I started out as a 'fleece cardigan person' and jackets feel like very formal. I am a MOTG after all ;-).

Great dress, Helen, will be a workhorse, I bet! I love black and grey together, in fact I have one almost similar dress, too:-) I like on you the most with that silver(?)grey leather jacket from nr.5 (also becauze that is one longer one, too?)and will perhaps make an even more combo with the grey opaques from nr. 6. Matching with blacks(for ex. simple boyfriend cardi or a longer length black fur vest) is no brain, but I feel same items in light greys will enlighten your outfit (as you are brunette)and elevate it even more, if possible.

All of these are great! I think I might prefer the grey leather jacket open. Beautiful and very versatile dress!

Wonderfull options, thank you! The jacket is a kind of matte green (kind of contrary to the shine of the leather).
Lyn, a cardigan in the light colour of the dress (kind of a cold blue-grey) sounds like a great idea to lighten this outfit up and make a contrast with my hair, but at the moment I have so many cardi's already that I can't really justify looking for another one. But your suggestion sparks another idea, I'll try some other options soon.

Lovely new dress! I prefer the outfits without the scarf, it's more streamlined IMO. Love it with the jackets in #4/5 and also think you should try it with the leather blazer left open. How about some textured tights?

I like the scarf and cardigan together, tied either way. And I do like the leather jacket combo too. I am not as fond of the scarf over the dress, probably because I'm not a great fan of pattern mixing. In that case, I think it would be more attractive to have a scarf in a solid silver or white, to brighten the outfit and provide a strong vertical line, or a vivid colour, for a nice pop of colour.

I like them all - my favourite is #1 followed closely by #5. The dress looks perfect on you:)

I think all of your experimentations work, but especially like #2, 3, and 4. That dress has a fabulous print! I think it's worth trying #5 with the jacket open, as Shannon said I'd love to see more of the pretty dress plus it'll add some elongating vertical lines. For #4, a more casual shoe might work here, too. I also like the idea of pairing a muted colored topper with this monochrome look, or even a cream topper.

I like the the dress on you - great fit. I like it in all it's incarnations except with the leather jacket - the colour of the jacket seems off. I like the black jacket but would prefer it with the shawl.

Such a pretty dress on you! I like it with the jackets worn open, too. The booties are adorable with it. Such a versatile piece that you can style so many ways.

This is a great dress and you have styled it wonderfully. I like all your outfits excelt maybe with grey opaque panty-hose. On my monitor it looks like the greys clash, but that may just be me. A MOTG can look fab in jackets as well as cardigans.

That dress is great.
I would love a pop of color. Hot pink scarf, maybe?
I have stated before, as the days get shorter and darker, I am very drawn to bright colors to lighten things up for me.

I have a strong preference for #3.
I would love to see #3 with a contrasting scarf. Deep rose. Emerald green.
Your coloring cries out for a rich color near your face with that gorgeous dress.
Please let us see the same dress with some color near your face. '
