I've been looking for a few years for replacement black "dressy" sandals with a low-ish heel. I have regular width feet, with very low volume. Narrow width shoes usually do NOT work. Most of the time, when the length is right, I need the ball-of-foot strap to be adjustable so I can snug it up, otherwise the sandal is too loose. I also need a very thick padded sole. With closed shoes I often add insoles to get that padding to a good level, but with sandals that's usually not possible.

I've been looking at sandals by L'Amour Des Pieds.

Does anyone have familiarity with this brand, especially whether the toe straps on sandals are snug or loose by "average" standards?

Not a clue, but wanted to share what I did for a similar issue. I was able to find transparent cushioning insoles with adhesive backs that I put on my flip-flops. Then I put thick moleskin on the straps that go across my feet. They weren’t rubbing, but being loose meant my feet were sliding too far forward. The result might not be pretty if you put shoes on a shelf, but because the insoles don’t go all the way to the edge of the shoes, they are not visible when I actually wear them. To me, that’s the point. Forgive me if those are ideas you’ve already tried with your other sandals.

Thanks fashintern, I tried something very much like that on some Sofft sandals a few years ago. It didn't quite make them snug enough although i did wear them for a while. It also created awkward edges I could feel under my toes. It sounded better than it was, and I don't want to go there again :-).

I have had one pair of the sandals from that brand - they were comfy enough in the beginning, then my feet felt some discomfort ( 8 hours on the feet will do that ). The style I’ve got was open toe sorta Mary Jane look - did not love it on my feet ( it was for interview and beginning of my work at more dressy place ). Medium volume I would describe it. Size 8,5 and now sitting in my closet without any action ;( .
Some of shoes from that brand are really not padded much ( I think that’s the case for the pair in the picture). For myself- I need much more padding in general- so I’m skipping that brand for now.

My good friend loves this brand and it's all she wears. She has extremely fussy feet and walks everywhere, so comfort and support are key. She has very narrow feet but with bunions, so she needs room in the right places.

I just placed an order for that one I showed, from Zappos, hoping for the best. I will definitely check out the arch placement,. I know arches on Naots and many Vionics do NOT work for me so I know what to look and feel for.

I have similar feet to you -- medium width but very low volume. I tried on a pair of L'Amour des Pieds at a shoe store once and they did NOT work, the usual too-tall problem. However, I find that even if a brand runs a particular way, sometimes you can make specific styles work... I have a couple pairs of Ecco shoes that I love, even though they are known to run both wide and "tall".

Kiex, thanks, and I know what you mean. You just have to try shoes on to really figure it out. I've gotten very used to the order/return cycle. I've had GREAT success with ECCOs too.

The sandals arrived and the quality is indeed fabulous. They fit well through the arch and foot, very comfortable foot bed, but the non adjustable toe strap is too loose. They were just a bit long, so I might have tried a size down which would be a 6.5, but Zappos was sold out of that size and the style turned out to be a little more casual than I was hoping for so I'm not going to search for it at other sites. To be honest I was also not thrilled at the idea of spending this much ($230 US) on a pair of shoes that would not get worn a lot. This brand will definitely be on my radar in the future! NEXT.
