Evolving as a style persona - YouLookFab Forum

Looking back at just the past year, it's interesting to see how much my style has evolved. What has stayed the same is my interest in vintage hair, fun makeup, and retaining a very eclectic influence. The biggest change I've noticed is, mostly due to the more professional environment I work in now, the fact that I am putting more effort into what I wear.

Pictures 1-6 are outfits I wore and how I did my hair prior to November 2014. (sorry for the weird faces haha)

Pictures 7-16 are after I started this new job. Initially I was very conservative, but as I've gotten to know the company, I've branched out more into the punk and edgy territories I love.

My weekend wear has even changed a bit, in the sense that - unless I'm literally not leaving the house that day - I am wearing something other than a hoodie and jeans. Which, as you see in the last picture, is pretty much how I used to dress EVERY WEEKEND.

I'm still working on defining what my style is, but I feel like I'm slowly but surely getting there.

My favorites are probably two of the more recent outfits I posted, not shown here: Ladylike with an edge, and the polished flannel/leather jacket combo.

Sometimes I feel like I have to dress very boring though, simply because I don't know what to wear. Like tomorrow, Tuesday being pants day, I'm wearing black trousers and a grey short sleeve sweater with a turtle neck and purple argyle pattern on the front. It's ok... But just not fully me. Or rather, it feels like me being lazy. But I don't have the time or energy to put the same amount of effort into every single outfit I wear. Tomorrow's outfit is just EASY.

So I guess that leads me to a burning question: What do you do when you don't feel like figuring out an outfit, but still want to feel stylish and genuine?

If you've seen the term FFBO here, for fast fallback outfit, that is how I do quick style. I have certain formulas I know will make me feel both good and not lazy, and I use those tried and true outfits to get through the mornings when I'd otherwise be staring stupidly into my closet.

I'd say your look is softer these days, while still edgy. Love the hair in #4 and the pine green blouse. I like #7, 10, 11 and 14... and of course 16.

In theory a FFBO sounds great, but if I did that I'd end up in skinny jeans, band t-shirt (I have close to 100) and one of same 2 jackets every day. That's exactly why I implemented a weekly schedule for myself, so I don't fall into a rut.

Before I started this new job, I had picked out and assigned outfits 3 weeks out! I'm well through those now though, and haven't had time to do anything like that since.

It occurs to me that every day is an FFBO day for me. My entire closet is sorted like Geranimals... "Pick one from each stack." Maybe you could subdivide your tops, for example. If you did a t-shirt one day, you can't do a t-shirt again the next day... well, it might keep things moving

When I'm really really too tired, I wear a dress. One item and you're done (!)

You are so good at hair. My fave is #10. Love it!

Found some even older pictures (ranging from 5-9 years ago) and my style was significantly more boho-hippie than I am now.

Neat to see your evolution! Your hair is particularly nice lately, but I also think you look impishly hip in the pixie -- sometimes it is easier to get away with edgy short hair in an office setting than edgy long hair. I think you'll find a way to put your rockabilly side back into office fashion, perhaps just in a more sophisticated way . . . which looks like what you are edging towards.

Yes, I think it looks like you are moving in the direction of merging the most "office appropriate" looks in with your creative, rockabilly side, as Elly says. What a fun journey!

I have to tell you something: Your second set of pics, something about them... I think you could have been an HGTV host! (HGTV's my fave channel - or it was, but I cut the cord).
