Everlane Barrel Denim - is this how they should fit?

My Everlane barrel legs in Ecru arrived. The amount of volume in the outer thigh is a bit surprising. I know this is not meant to be a fitted style but what do you think? Correct fit or drowning in fabric fit?

The rise is spot on and the waist cannot be sized down and remain comfortable.

You don’t look like your drowning in fabric, I think they look good, I always find it a bit challenging trying new silhouettes at first but usually my eye adjusts through time. Bonus that its the correct rise and a comfortable fit. I vote enjoy the new change.

I do like them, and they look good but I was actually thinking that you might want to try one size up as I think these are not quite as barrel like as they show on the model

Hmm, a size up might pull right off without unbuttoning, like a boyfriend style.

Perhaps the barrel leg is not the cut for those with zero hips? Or is it?

This is more or less how barrel/balloon styles look on me! I appear straight/slim hips from the front but have prominent glutes and quads, so I get a barrel shape in profile, rather than in the front view. I just go by waist fit and enjoy the loose billowiness, however the fabric wants to fall.

I think they look good in your photos, even kind of trim (for this style). Your description of the fit in the rise and waist sound like you've got the right size. It might be that this style won't be one of your faves. Or it might just take a little adjusting to the idea.

Upon closer inspection, it looks like yours are these, with the utility-style knee seam? I can confirm that this style (especially the canvas) is quite a slim barrel. They won’t give you the pronounced curve silhouette that you get with the style Angie has.

Yes, these look more like my barrel jeans from Everlane than like the Curve, which has a somewhat different shape.

My barrel jeans fit me more or less like yours fit you here. I like them on you (and me, obviously, LOL.) I wear them in warmer weather because the fabric is lighter weight and I like the volume which feels breezier than a snugger denim would.

I don't have my Curve jeans yet, so can't compare.

Photo is from last year, when I got them. So they might be a slightly different version -- who knows?

Mine are indeed the utility barrel, not the Curve. And color is Bone - I think Ecru was a pair of similars from Mango that I returned.

I think this illustrates why jeans are tricky. If the cut does not match your own proportions it does not fall like it does on the model. For me, a cut that depends on a fitted high waist will almost always be very baggy in the legs. Men's jeans actually fit me better very often these days. All that said, I think these look good on you but would try to style them with complete looks to decide.

I think so! They don't look too loose, especially since they taper nicely at the hems & waist.

But you might just need a moment for your poison eye to adjust from previous silhouettes

That is a problem that I have with baggy leg pants - I have to size up so much for my waist that there is a lot of excess fabric on the thighs. I am not used to that fit so it seems very awkward.
