I’ve been so unfocused lately, I know I need to get to the gym. Between the jetlag, the sudden shift to cool weather, and the days being shorter, I haven’t gotten in rhythm. Being out of routine makes it hard to get stuff done, and the cycle goes on.
Another thing that helps people focus is cold exposure. There has been quite a bit published on that recently. My outdoor pool is staying open, unheated, mornings until 2 pm weekdays through October. I want to get there once a week.
The archive is open 10-5. Going to the gym immediately afterwards is a problem, because there are too many people there, so I need to go home, eat, and motivate to go back when it’s less crowded. See above paragraph, compounded by calls from my son like the one yesterday when he needed me to scan in 40 pgs of medical documentation.
So today, when the archive isn’t opening until 1, was the perfect chance to go to the gym, then get a quick cold swim in. Did I make it? No, I did not. Instead of packing last night, I carefully pulled everything out and packed a bag in the order in which I’d need things, work shoes and day clothes at the bottom, then shower stuff, and then swim things, laptop & notebook along the side, this morning. Seemed great until I realized that it had gotten so late I wouldn’t be able to make it to the pool if I went to the gym first. I decided the workout does me more good than the cold swim, so I’d hit the gym first. Then my stomach acted up, so I did neither.
Looks like I’m going to try, once again, to hit the gym after the archive today. Wish me luck!
