Ever discover a wardrobe hole AFTER you've filled it?

I wore out my only pair of proper sandals last year, so I bought these to replace them at the beginning of April:

My previous sandals had a wedge heel, but I couldn't find any wedges I liked this year so I got flat ones instead. As soon as the weather got warm, I discovered that these are the single most important pair of shoes in my closet. I'm not sure how I managed without flat sandals before, because I wear these things nearly every day!

Now, it's true that I'm the type who always has hot feet, so I am happy to wear sandals with full-length jeans when others would wear closed-toe shoes. In fact I have trouble with closed-toe shoes that are not meant to be worn with socks, because there seems to be such a short window where I can wear them in comfort. (And yes, I do use those no-show nylon sockette thingies). But still, I am surprised at how much wear these are getting. They look good with shorts, pants, crops and short skirts (but not long skirts), and are probably the most comfy pair of sandals I've ever owned. Yet I didn't realize I had a wardrobe hole for flat, comfy sandals. Weird!

Those look like great sandals for you. I can see why you'd reach for them.

I do discover wardrobe holes after filling them -- but that isn't really a surprise since I went for so many years without much of anything in the way of clothing, so even a few years into wardrobe building I can still astonish myself that, say, a pewter belt or a pair of fashion running shoes can be so darned useful. I have been away for a month in a cool climate, but I expect my new cage sandals are going to fill an unacknowledged hole when I get back.

Heh. I could probably say that I did this with skinny jeans. They did not appeal to me for years, but as soon as I picked up a few pairs, I saw how well they worked with certain things. I haven't given up all other silhouettes, but I have more room in my life for these than I thought I would.

Those are TDF..I love the minimalist look...and with all of that they are comfortable...Not surprised that these get a great work-out...

those are cute. i can't believe you didn't have flat sandals. wardrobe staple for me once i started reading YLF and gave up my flip flops.

I only wear Birks or my Vionic (Orthaheel) slip-on sandals in the summer, they are must-haves! So glad you found a great pair.

And these really are quite nice. How is the side buckle working for you? I'm not sure I have time for that. I like the "slip-on and go" nature of my Birks.

But really, these look very comfy. Great find!

Nice shoes!

For me, animal print flats. Then animal print wedges. It turns out it's really useful to have shoes that can add interest to almost anything, and also go with almost anything.

Yup, I totally relate to you! I used to only own wedge sandals and now having a pair of flats and a pair of wedges (same wedges since grade 12, btw), make my summer wardrobe just sing with happiness (or at least, my feet)

These sandals look great. I wore a gearish version of something like this and nothing else on my feet for about a year and a half living in a tropical place.

Wardrobe holes I didn't know I had until I filled them this year:

-a white and a black camisole stretchy long tank
-a full-sized purse
-a short black knit tube skirt (bridges the gap between leggings and pants )
-lace up flat booties

when I look at my tracked wears those things are essential and way into the double digits.

Oh and Merrill slip on mary janes worn inside the house shoes, every day, for years and years -- no more backaches or sore feet or tight calves.

Oh my goodness, I seriously seriously love these sandals! No wonder you wear them all the time!

And yes, I discover wardrobe holes after I buy all the time (agreeing with Rachy's silk shirt item, among many others) which makes me suspicious of the whole planning process!

Thanks for the compliments on the sandals, everyone! Apparently these are considered gladiator sandals. I'm not convinced, but I really like the style.

Kristin, the side buckle is no problem. They take two seconds to put on. Mind you, I'm not taking them on and off a lot. If it's dry enough to be wearing sandals, it's dry enough to leave your footwear on when you enter the house (we have wood floors, not carpet). And they're comfortable enough that I don't notice them on my feet.

I really like them also. And the answer is yes to your question. I am addicted to roll tab sleeves they are the perfect summer compromise.
