Evening gowns - shrugs? - YouLookFab Forum

Pictured is the dress I will most likely be wearing for a recital at the end of the month (I still haven't managed to play in it, but I will!). I will need something to cover up to make me comfortable. I have a black shrug, pictured in #2 but am also looking at metallic ones - are any of them more/less likely to work? As I may have to buy two sizes to try (they're only available online) I would like to narrow it down a bit.

I think the one you have is fine, and I also like the rocha shrug... as long as the taupe doesn't dress your outfit down too much.

How about a black sparkly shrug? That would be pretty. Also, a short, small gauge pearl necklace would be nice.

Very helpful! I've now played in the dress. It's fine and feels 'safe', even strapless, although I would feel quite exposed like that. But so glad Angie and Julie insisted I did that. The section of material at the front has to be moved to one side when I play (and then it's fine) or it would really fidget me. Not something I'd have liked to have discovered in front of an audience!

I think I'll avoid sequins because of the comfort factor but could do pearls. The lace one I found initially is out of stock unfortunately in my size but I'll keep my eyes open.

So a vote for everything except the Phase 8 one. V helpful. Time to do some trying now!

I really like the Betty Jackson one, if you have a brooch to hand you could also use it to fasten your bolero. Are you feeling less daunted by the shopping now Polly?

Your evening gown is just beautiful. I like all of the shrugs you found and would not be able to choose the best one but it looks like Angie has given you advice on them.

Your red white and blue outfit is beautiful and I love the hat on you.

Julie yes thank you! As ever, once I get going and start trying things it gets easier. Funny how when it feels like a new area of shopping I lose my confidence and really appreciate the major hand holding.

And thanks San - it was fun to dress up and fun to wear a hat, although it spent most of the time on other people's heads, courtesy of DS6!
