Evening gowns - Round 2

Having cold feet about #1. The straps interfere a bit with the fit at the neckline (as it's a budget dress) - they pull the inside out a little. I would feel uncomfortable to wear it without straps.

#2 (another budget option) came in the post yesterday - same make as #1, but I'm not sure it's as successful.

Any thoughts? I can't really justify spending much more to get a really fabulous dress, but not excited about spending anything on something not very good!

#3 is of some strappy shoes I bought a couple of days ago, that I'm wearing in #2. I liked the pale gold colour and don't have anything suitable otherwise.

#2 is great! Can you let down the hem at all, Polly? It's a little short. Super sandals too.

I like #2 better -- is it navy? I agree with Angie that it needs to be a bit longer though. Love the shoes (especially that heel height, not too tall or too short, but classy).

Sadly there is really no hem at all. I'm still keeping options open, though! And am glad the shoes are ok.

What was wrong with the first strapless gown you posted in an earlier thread? I LOVED that one on you. You have the best shoulders! Was it too difficult to play in? I really like the wider straps of the second one in this round. Seems a shame to buy a dress that you feel you have to wear a shrug (1.)

I think the first one in the last thread was just too expensive given that I'm not being paid for this and possibly wouldn't need it again for ages. I would also need to buy suitable underwear to make it 'safe' to play in and something to cover my shoulders - I'd be a bit self-conscious about playing with bare shoulders although your compliment about my shoulders is a real boost!

I'm spending too much time browsing online for something else at the moment. I know that the right thing exists at the right price but not sure I'm going to manage to get it this time!

[the one you mentioned is definitely the one that I had the most positive response to when I looked in the mirror, though]

Oh, that's too bad. That one was a real show stopper. However, I can see not wanting to spend a lot on something that will not get a lot of wear. Both of these are nice basic gowns--I think the first one is flattering even without a shrug : ) Looking forward to seeing more fashion shows!

Yes, it's annoying! Oh well - I blame YLF for raising my standards!

Here's a shrug I tried with #1 in two colours. One's silver, the other's pale gold.

I know what you mean about high standards vs. $$! It's a tricky balance. I think both of these dresses are fine looking (especially if you are planning to layer over them), and I think the shrugs are nice too. I guess I would maybe keep looking for the dress that really sings to you but doesn't break the bank, if you can handle the search process!
