I know this is a huge photo and video dump, but I would really like
some help finding my essence. These pictures and videos are from over the past 5 years, so I may look slightly different in some of them, but I don’t think I’ve changed too much. However, over COVID I gained 15 lbs. (and just lost it a couple months ago), and I also got Invisalign a couple years ago, so some of the older pictures and videos may show my crooked teeth, overbite, and higher weight. I don’t have many recent pictures and videos that don’t have me dressed up in a certain aesthetic and I didn’t want to include those in case it influences your opinions (If you would like me to send you some pictures of me in certain aesthetics or time period costumes to help with your assessment, I can absolutely do that). By the way, I suggest watching the videos muted
because I found that I was able to focus on my essence better without the sound distraction.

I recently saw a blog post that talked about different actresses and how they are typecast based on their looks and their essences (i.e.: Alexi Bledel is generally cast as the shy, sweet, innocent girl, not as the warrior or a villain or queen). Typecasting: volume One (dressingforyou.blogspot.com)

So, with that in mind, what movie genre would you cast me in? What time period would the movie take place in? What character would I be in it? Do I look like I’m from a different time? (i.e. Ancient Greece, Renaissance, Regency, 1920, 1940s, etc.) Or am I modern? What art period do I belong in? What clothing aesthetic would look best on me? What hairstyle is best?

Which/what combo of the 7 essences do you think I have (dramatic, romantic, natural, gamine, classic, ingenue, or ethereal)? Which of Olga Brylinska’s 18 essences do you think I have? Which of David Zyla’s archetypes am I?

I would love to hear any thoughts you have!!

Such a fun question. I have found knowing my style essence to be incredibly helpful (I'm a classic-gamine-ingenue) when it comes to getting dressed.

My first impression of your beautiful face is that you're a mix of Ethereal, Natural, and Romantic (or maybe Ingenue instead, both essences look great in soft, feminine styles and curly hair).

If you look at home in sexy form fitting dresses you're probably more Romantic, but if you look at home in cute, sweet dresses you probably have more Ingenue. Sexy clothes look incredibly mature and stuffy on me, like I'm wearing a costume, but sweet, feminine dresses with modest necklines look amazing on me, so that's one of the ways I figured out I have Ingenue essence and definitely no Romantic.

I would highly recommend the website Truth is Beauty for anyone interested in finding out their style type/essence. Her method is incredibly interesting and helpful and focuses on which style type/essence harmonizes best with your unique facial beauty. Her blog is full of interesting posts about each type and how to dress for each type, plus she has awesome Pinterest boards for visual inspiration.

She has a tool called the Style ID Calculator which is around $20 and so helpful! You compare a photo of your face to numbered Pinterest boards (each board is a different blend of the seven essence types) and you score each board based on how beautiful/harmonious your face looks next to the board, and then the tool calculates your score and tells you what percentage of each style essence you are (most people are a blend of two to three style essences, although some people are only one). I have used it to identify my own essence and the essences of my friends and it's really accurate!

The Concept Wardrobe also has guides for each of the seven style essences if you want more examples of how to dress each type.
