Wardrobe Capsules (NEW update: 6 capsules)

I emptied my wardrobe for season cleaning/storing and decided to 1) create capsules for all my current needs (which include a business casual capsule and winter sports) and 2) organize the wardrobe itself by capsules (rather than the color/type of clothing system I had before).

I can't yet say my capsules organization will survive the daily routine test, but I am happy that by exploring the capsule approach to outfit development... I discovered I had more options to do business casual than I believed. (Less shopping needed! And I must say I am kinda of tired of shopping sprees; it would be nice to actually have evrything I need in my closet for once!)

(Well, putting stuff back in place is a pain in the neck. But season cleaning usually is... So I am resigned to at least this pain.)

The first pic shows my Winter Business Casual Capsule.
A. Tops and sweaters
1. Dark grey tailored wool sweater
2. Black tailored wool sweater
3. Cab yellow oversized wool sweater
4. Navy boxy wool sweater
5. White long sleeved cotton shirt

B. Bottoms
1. Black polyester blend pencil skirt
2. Polka dots wool skirt (slight A-shape)
3. Navy patterned polyester and cotton blend straight legs suit trousers

C. Toppers
1. Navy patterned polyester and cotton blazer
2. Black polyester blend tailored blazer (with black and white striped lining)

D. Outerwear
1. Black fluffy winter coat (not pictured)

Pic 2 shows the booties that goes with the Winter Business Casual Capsule (they are the only brand new item from the selection, actually). A shoulder/messenger bag in black leather (not pictured) completes the capsule.

The third pic is a Transition Weather Business Casual Capsule.

A. Tops

1. Black & white patterned polyester and cotton blend skirt
2. Black & white A-line, full skirt

1. Dark grey bubble hem cotton dress

Black pumps and cobalt pumps (not pictured) are also part of the Transition Weather Business Casual Capsule. The same trusted black shoulder/message bag will be taken from Winter Business Casual to Transition Weather Business Casual.

Great! This looks fab and makes me want to clean my closet.

Beautifully compact and complete. The styles and colors seem well integrated and yet with variety. Transitional and winter seem like they will intermix too depending on your weather and needs.

So right it's nice not to have to shop.

Hey girls! Thanks for your comments. I am still battling clothes (They are all over the bed and I slept in the couch in the living room... tsk, tsk, tsk), a.k.a: building my capsules. My goal is to resize my wardrobe to half of its current size since I plan on taking down some of my shelves to gain some space in the bedroom.

Now I present you a Evening Out Capsule (I am thinking here casual settings like going to the movies, having dinner with family or friends at a bar/restaurant).

I am not sure about how useful the Transition Weather Evening Out capsule will proove itself to be, because I included items I barely or never wear (a status that I do want to change for these particular pieces and that's why they made the cut).

You must be looking forward to your social life after doing this capsule. You're queen of beautiful details that elevate everything. Love that swishy red skirt, leather jacket, classic stripes, those refined dots. Then the pop of fuschia, the furry something, the artsy sweater texture, the elegant subtle trim on another. Then all the neutral colors and basic shapes plus cool accessories that hold it all together.

Looks like a night on the sofa was worth it. Everything is so much more head turning in the photos and as part of the collections than they sound just from reading descriptions. You're going to have fun in these capsules.

What a great idea! The idea of organising by capsule is a really good idea. Having all my pants together can make it tough to think of what they will work with, so this seems helpful to me.

As I've said before, I love the idea of capsules, but I always end up reaching around them for additional add-ins, though the idea is always compelling. This might be a nice work around to that, by blending my capsules, somewhat.

I'm thinking something like
Casual toppers
Casual bottoms
Casual tops
Career tops
Career bottoms
Career toppers

Then I've got the toppers and bottoms from each capsule sort of bookending the blouses and tees of each casule, giving those bottoms that much more playing room. *hmmm*

You are doing a great job with your capsules! I only did one so far, and it took me a long time. And I only focused on the ensemble post, not even a full capsule post yet, here. I plan to work on more this weekend. I'm trying to decide how to sort my closet, I might try out hanging items by capsule instead of categories and color.
