Enable/veto these trousers UPDATE

I found these pants on sale today. I've had this style on the wish list since trying a few pairs in Japan and then coming home to discover I'm short on dressy black pants for winter.

Quality and material is outstanding. Price is in the investment bracket so I need to be sure they'll work.

I had Mr Edge snap a shot (complete with bonus lego robot fella) and I don't like them as much in the picture as much as in the mirror, but I'm still seeing the potential. I'm thinking fluid fit and oversized sweaters, bomber jackets, tailored shirts, maybe even blazers and probably boots rather than shoes.

I think the size is about right for a slouchy fit, but I could size down.

What think you ladies? Should I go back next week?

They are great - go for it. Wouldn't they be perfect with a bomber and oxfords? If left to my own devices, and if pieces like this were available at retail here in the hinterlands, I'd be wearing pants like this.

I'm on the fence about the length/hem width. Even when you wear a column of colour - which is as flattering as you can make the look - I think they should be shorter in length, or less wide at the hem at this length. I DO like the fit of the rest of the trousers.

This is encouraging. I was expecting a load of "whatever are you thinking?" so nice to hear I'm not going mad.

lisap, kkards, cheers, that's some enablement right there. I'm quite taken with them myself, but they absolutely need to justify the expense.

Angie: I too have the feeling they should be a tad shorter. I checked the (oh so beautifully finished) cuff and it doesn't look like a difficult alteration. A size down might sit higher on the waist as well, so could be worth a try.

I will be a nay-sayer. I think they look kind of like harem-wannabes but not quite, and yet the taper puts them out of the slouchy cropped trouser look. They seem too full through the hip for the taper, for my eye.

But, that may be just what makes them fun for unusual reasons--so I am more looking at it from a "typical" proportions view.

As an investment piece i'm assuming they are expensive I think they really shorten the leg on you and would leave them behind myself sorry

I like them. I like the way they hang... and I like them at 'flood' length because that's creative cool. But I will admit that I'm not sure that length would work with a dressier, more delicate shoe.

The wide hem hang strangely. Otherwise, they look good from the front.
Can't see the back view, so I'll defer to Mr Edge to judge if it looks good

These just seem so so you (having now seen a few of your WIWs).
I don't think they're a perfect rendition of a cropped pant, but I don't think they're supposed to be (that's my take anyway).
I just think these are arty and cool.
Oh, maybe the word I'm looking for is "avant garde"?
I like. How you've styled them and I also like you're styling ideas.

I think you can pull these off, if you love them. I'll defer to others on the length, but these look good size-wise to me. They are meant to be quite slouchy as per the model photo.

Love the fit, I don't think a size down would drape as well. A little tough to tell on the length but I can see how a smidge shorter/narrower would give the pants more longevity (if that's an alteration you're OK doing to fancy-pants).

Are they a fold over at front or a draped low crotch? I cannot see.

I recently bought #1 and while they hit my ankle. They are a much more relaxed on me than the model. A little more like yours fit.

The pants are interesting and I like the fit. I encourage you to go try them again. I do like the length. It gives them an edge and contributes to the avant Garde vibe of the look.

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I see there are a few naysayers and I take that on board, but flattery isn't always my main objective. It's great having long legs but sometimes I prefer to show off a bit of wit and self-deprecating humour instead.

I'm definitely going back for these. I'll be looking at how the rise and length can be tweaked with adjustments to the waistband and cuff but I think they could be a winner.

rachylou: I don't think I own anything I'd call a delicate shoe, so it's all good.

smittie: ah thanks, that's the deal breaker! I don't mind if it shortens the leg, if it looks like "me", that's the win!

Deborah: there's no fold-over, just a very deep, draped crotch. And I'm so glad I'm not the only one here with a penchant for harem pant wannabes

RoseandJoan: I've always found this shape very mobile, but it needs a lot of volume in the seat to feel right.

So glad you are getting them - I love the beautiful tailoring of these pants and think they look fantastic on you.

I went back today and they had slashed the price further. I could have waited it out for more reductions but I'd rather support my local independent boutique. And wear them tomorrow of course.

The length/rise is adjustable with buckles on the waistband so no alterations needed.

I got them. I like them. A lot.

So glad you went back and got them; so happy for you that you got a better price; so happy for the boutique that you thought about their bottom line and bought before they slashed further.
