EMERGENCY: What to wear to a Quinceanera?

This is my first Quinceanera, and I'm totally lost! I've only got a few days to prep for it, and the card says dress to impress. But everyones' biggest warning is NEVER OUTSHINE THE QUINCEANERA GIRL! Ummm Dress to impress + Don't overdo it = wth in my mind. Soooo lost Can anybody help?

Oops I forgot to mention that I have a rly cute dress but I don't know if it's too much. It's this adorable mint-green, short, sweetheart with this rly cute silver embroidery on the top part. I'm asian so the color is just perfect. Sorry I don't have a photo
Yeah, but it looks like prom dress soooo I'm kinda worried about the "don't outshine my friend part"

What IS a Quinceanera?

Your dress sounds pretty and it also sounds as if it makes you happy (two good things.)

No wonder you're a bit worried about what to wear, though, with instructions like those!

Speaking from absolutely no experience here, but I am guessing the Quinceanera girl will be dressed up even fancier than prom, so your dress should be just fine.

I don't have personal experience, but what L'Abeille said is my understanding and what I've seen in shop windows too, super fancy long flared debutante type dresses with ruffles or tulle. Like these: https://www.google.com/search?.....o=u&s

So as long as your dress is nice and formal but doesn't go that far out, I think you are good. Almost like what you might wear to a wedding.

I think your dress should be fine. The Quinceanera girl and her attendants will be wearing long dresses so the "outshine" danger is quite low.

Suz, a Quinceanera is like a fancy Sweet Sixteen, only in Latino communities it's done to celebrate a girl's fifteenth birthday. There's usually a church service followed by a big party. The young lady dresses like a bride or debutante and has a party of attendants, both boys and girls. Very fancy. (Sort of like a bar or bat mitzvah, in a way, too.)

Thanks for the fast replies! That helps a lot, and I think that I will go in the green dress. MaryK & La'Abeille ty for letting me know that the outshining thing isn't actually too bad. Well...unless I go in a fancy ball gown, but that's definitely not going to happen

Yep -- Audrey, I was going to say that unless you're planning to go in a full-on wedding gown, it's unlikely that you'll outshine the girl of honor, who is likely to be EXTREMELY fancy.
