Emergency London shopping recommendation?

London savvy folks, I need to help my sister shop today for the wedding on Saturday — she is the mother of the bride and her luggage never arrived in London.

Looking for simple style, not budget-busting, and not far from where we are (Islington area). She is near my height but a bit more apple body type, perhaps two sizes difference, so US size 12-14. She likes Chico’s.

Any suggestions?

We’re heading to Selfridges and Mark’s & Spencer but welcome any other suggestions. She’s just beside herself. She got underwear yesterday but will need outfit and shoes and jewelry.

So sorry to hear this, Janet! What a nightmare. It’s been a while since I’ve had to shop in the U.K., but I do think it’s smart to start with department stores. Debenham’s might be another option, if there’s one near you.

What a nightmare! Have a look at Hobb's for dresses and footwear, I believe they have quite a few locations around London.

I was also going to suggest John Lewis as it could be a one stop shop, dress shoes and accessories. It's down the street from Selfridges on Oxford Street. Marks and Spencer is there too. Maybe the stores have a in store stylist that could help pull things together for her to try on especially as you are in a time crunch. Good Luck.

Oh what an awfully stressful thing to have happenAll the above suggestions are good.l paticularily like John Lewis as they keep a wide range of labels,styles and prices.lf you have time to ring them and explain the situation they might have a free slot with their personal shopper if that would help.l believe that Debenhams also offer this service.Good luck !

Thanks, everyone! Wonderful suggestions.

We walked to M&S and I asked the first SA we found, who pulled a stylist over and introduced us. She asked some questions and got us settled into some comfy chairs while she is pulling together some options for my sister to try on. Talk about wonderful customer service! I’m waiting outside the dressing room now and will let you all know how we do.

My hope is that we do all this, and her luggage shows up tonight! But it’s been three days and she’s gotten no help from the airlines. So infuriating!

That's infuriating but lucky you found a stylist. Hopefully she comes up with something. Coast might be worth a look. They have concessions in the big department stores but also stand-alone shops.

There is a SUPERB alteration service near by too

OMG, the stylist is brilliant. Angie level! She nudged my sister out of her comfort zone. This dress was the first thing she brought and we love it!

My sister is smiling and loves it more than the dress she bought at home.

The dress is beautiful, and once her heart rate goes down she will have a wonderful souvenir and story to tell about the trip. Don't forget to bill the airline for all those expenses! Mazel tov on your adventure and the wedding!

The dress is beautiful - so glad you're sister found something so easily. That's terrible about the airline! My sister always loses her luggage (she has bad travel luck) but it usually shows up within a day or two. One time on a cruise, they sent it to our next port and it was waiting when the ship docked.

M&S fan, here. Glad the stylist worked out. Hope your sis got some other clothes to wear as well as the MOB outfit. Love the whole look! Hope she got the hat as well!

And I second getting the airline to reimburse costs of clothes. Depending on payment method for flight, there may be additional insurance through the charge card company as well.
