The iceberg-colored blazer has arrived! I need feedback -- what do you think?

I rarely button up my jackets, and this is a little snug in the bust when I button it, as you can probably see from the pics. If I size up, I'm afraid the shoulders will be too big.

The back photo was taken with the jacket buttoned.

Forgive the lack of styling -- I just threw it on with the jeans and shoes I'm wearing today and a grey tee.

The fabric is a cotton/linen/spandex blend -- it wrinkles/creases a little bit (for instance when I scrunch the sleeves) but that's not a deal breaker for me since this would be dressed down with jeans for the most part.

What do you think?

It looks like the perfect fit open, so if that is how you wear it then doesn't matter if its tight closed. If you want to wear it closed once in a while, could you move the button over 1/2" or so? It might make just enough of a difference. Love the colors , I hope you keep it!

Hmm, I think it looks amazing from the back. I'm not sure about the front though - something about where that dark band is hitting is making the line not as nice from the front as from the back. A size up might fix that though.

I'm also not crazy about the horizontal white slash pockets.

i don't think a size up would eliminate the creasing, that is the issue with lots of one button blazers, plus I think the fabric has that tendency to crease. I like it open and closed. To be frank, I do not mind that crease that much anymore. We are not seen in a static fashion, those nuances are not that perceptible IRL. Plus, I have noticed similar creasing , pulling etc on style icons such as Giovanna Battaglia, Anna Wintour etc. Heck, if a little creasing is good for them, it is good for me too. I have relaxed my "standards" lol.

I vote keep.

Janet, this is so unusual and so interesting. I LOVE it for you. To me, just the associations with your amazing iceberg photos are enough to make it a winner. (You could wear it to a launch of your work....)

I would love to see you style it a few ways to see if it can really earn its keep. I suspect it would be a spring workhorse. But that blue may be tricky to work with if you don't have the right bottoms.

Angie, I do have a lot of toppers, but the vast majority of them are shorter or cropped. I enjoy that silhouette but i am feeling the need to branch out a bit more lately. The longer blazers I have are much more wintry. If I keep this jacket, that will mean I have two longer jackets that take me into warmer months -- this one and the DVF starry one, which has a bit more boyfriendy cut. Do I *need* it? No. But it definitely jumped out at me.

Alicat, the Muubaa ombré moto jacket speaks to me an little more than this one does, but I have so many moto jackets I fear a rut. Does that make sense?

I have also been craving a silver jacket. Muubaa makes one, it's in a post that Mochi started a few days ago. Sigh.

I like it. And like Raisin said, maybe you can move the button over a 0.5 inches if you want to wear it buttoned.

I like it unbuttoned. I like it from the back. I think it looks really good on you, and it is a unique statement piece. My only concern is that it does not appear to me to be the kind of statement piece you will keep for 10 years because it is quirky. I think this ombre look will age and look so "2013" in a few years.

Would you prefer a silver jacket to this one? If so, go with the silver.

How much wear would you get out of it? With its price point, it would have to be A LOT to get the CPW down to what I would deem a reasonable level. But then, I may demand a lower CPW than you do!

I find the longer blazer silhouette VERY flattering on you. And I like the change. This is a $600 jacket. I just don't know if it's worth the price point. But the most important thing is whether YOU think it's worth it.

I think the fit looks ideal and this blazer is super flattering on your tall frame.
I think it would make a really fun piece for Spring, though I do think that the very distinctive pattern means it won't really be a "basic" blazer that you can wear all the time (without it seeming very obvious that you are wearing it all the time), if that makes sense. But for a splash and a statement, I love it!

I really love the colors and pattern. I feel like open there just isn't enough shape -- I think it would work more to my eye if it were shorter and hit you 2-3 inches higher on the hip. Closed you're right it is a bit tight. I am not sure the colors and uniqueness are enough to overcome fit.

Love the pattern! Not as sure about the material, as it does crease/wrinkle. Only you can know if it is a keeper at this price point for you. I would have to have it drape perfectly with nary a crease for this much money, but we're not talking about me lol.

Hm. I am torn. If it was the colours of the one on the Nordstrom site, I would like it more, I think. It looks more vibrant on the site, the blues look better together.

I do like the longer fit of it, but I much prefer your burgundy Elizabeth and James blazer.

OK, verdict is in. My husband came home and I showed it to him. He didn't love it. If I'm going to get something that distinctive and that pricey, I want him to love it too.

However, before that happened, I was musing on the feedback in this thread, and the interesting concept it brings up for me: the uniqueness of a piece justifying a high price point.

I'm not going to buy just any blazer for that amount of money. I don't need to fit into any kind of conventional look, so if I'm getting a blazer, its going to be something fun. I love photographic and graphic prints but I'm also getting pickier about prints in general and printed pieces. Also, for better or for worse, I'm getting more accustomed to higher end pieces. At this point in my life, I can afford it. That may not be true a few years from now if we tighten our belts after my husband retires, but for now I feel really lucky that I can afford a special piece like this.

I showed hubs the Muubaa leather ombré jacket, and THAT he loved!

Ooh, I'm going to be spanner (and after Angie, yikes!) say that I'm not sold on it. I love YOU, and I love the blazer, but I feel it's a little more rectangular than it should be in the shoulders and the pattern is adding to that effect. It is SUCH a cool blazer, though... I totally see the appeal and obviously I'm in the minority, but at this price point I felt I needed to say something. Maybe it's that the sleeves are not scrunched - would love to see some more styled looks and some sleeve scrunching in case I change my mind.

Una, you and my husband (whose eye I trust very much) are on the same page. Dare I quote him? He said that the cut reminds him too much of what he sees in corporate America, and it looks too much like a conservative jacket trying to be cool.

I'm starting to think that if this were either more shaped (as Day Vies mentions) or more drapey and boyfriendy, it would work better for my style goals. It does feel a little stiff on.

Bottom line, it's not perfect. It's going back. Thank you everyone for all the feedback, both pro and con!

Without even reading your verdict I would have said that I prefer the ombre jacket. It manages to be unique without having the slightly ALGO feel (I guess color/patternwise) of the blazer. The fit will be better too. It's an amazing piece, if you decide to get it.
