K/R: Eliza J dress and the famous Yellow Halogen skirt

1) Yellow Halogen skirt: Tucked in to show skirt shape and then styled with a brown silk tank and my new denim jacket. I think this is a miss.

2) Eliza J dress in blue: Worn with black booties (not shown) and black tights with a silver metallic floral pattern. In the last picture I threw in a silver necklace. I was dubious about this one but my husband LOVES it and is rooting for me to wear it to a family dinner next week.

Love the yellow skirt! It fits perfectly. What makes you think it's a miss, Sylvie?

I don't know which part I like more: you in the blue dress, or that you received so much adoration from hubby wearing it. You look absolutely smashing!!

Aww, thanks for the compliment Angie!

Here's what I don't like about the yellow skirt:

It emphasizes my figure flaws and I own sheath dresses that are cut to skim over them.
It's too long on me. I know I can get it hemmed but then I'd rather pay full price for the petite.
I feel too constrained when walking, even though the back flap has already been cut. Shortening might fix this.
Lastly, I think the color is too pale. (This is where everyone on the forum laughs) If it were a clearer, brighter yellow, I'd probably be looking for excuses to keep it.

I would like to try the petite size pencil skirt in a more saturated color in the future.

Oh, that famous hallogen skirt, again:-)) I can see what you're saying, it's a bit longish on you. Maybe try the petite, otherwise, great colour, and all!! Dress is fab, all the way, and your hubby has good eyes:-))

I think the skirt's gorgeous on you, but your feelings are the most important. To be fair it might help to see your shoes or the full view to get a sense of the proportion. I love the blue dress!!

I love both of these on you, Sylvie, but how you feel certainly matters! From reading old posts about the Halogen skirt, it sounds like a lot of people had good luck with the petite proportions.

What a lovely dress on you! Seems perfect for a family dinner. I like the skirt, too, but I see what you mean about the length. How tall are you? I'm 5'1" and the petite works well on me. I actually like the under-saturated yellow, but of course it's not my skirt, it's yours, and you must love it!

I also like the skirt. But I understand exactly what you mean about comfort, and if it doesn't feel right, you won't wear it. Pencil skirts can be so finicky that way. Some work beautifully and some just don't.

Both of these are great! Try the skirt with a little heel like the ones in your profile picture. It is the puuurrrfect leg lengthening length on you. The dress is adorable. Push your comfort zone a little bit. These pieces are fantastic on you!

The dress is fantastic! It looks like it was made for you! Definitely keep, and it's wonderful that your husband loves it too!

The skirt also look great. But if it is not physically comfortable, send it back......but if it's a mental thing, think about keeping!

LOVE the blue dress.

Here's my take on the seamed skirt. I actually just sent back the one I ordered as well, even though it did technically fit. On me, I felt like it was giving me a front "pooch" because there was a little extra fabric in front that somehow simultaneously bagged out a little and emphasized my not-perfectly-flat tummy (but I wouldn't be able to go down a size because the hips would be too tight then). It kind of looks like there is excess fabric in front on yours as well. I believe a petite would fix this problem - however, I like the length of the regular and I think the petite would be too short. So, no Halogen skirt for me. Yours looks like it hits lower on the leg on you (on me, it was right above the knee) so the petite length would probably work for you.

Well, I don't see the figure flaws you're talking about, but if you don't feel fab, you don't feel fab. That's most important.

There is no question on the blue dress, though - love!

Thank you all for your unanimous love for the blue dress. If the husband hadn't been rooting for it, it would have been back in the bag and wouldn't even have been posted!

sarah: I'm just under 5'3" but I have long legs and wear regular length pants.

Suz, modgrl, isis, Angie: I may just not be ready for pencil skirts yet.
Diana, rae: Unfortunately, the pooch is me and not excess fabric.

I don't think the yellow skirt looks "bad" on me per se but it really comes down to physical comfort. I take long strides and walk fast and the skirt makes me feel hobbled. I don't want to keep it in my closet just in case I feel ready to wear it in 6 months, even though Nordstrom would take it back. Better to set it free so someone who really wants it can enjoy it.

So late in responding here, Sylvie, but I was looking for the Eliza J dress and found it here on your link and then I noticed your yellow raisin Halogen (which I own and love) and I just wanted to say that BOTH of these are wonderful on you and I hope Nordstrom still has this dress as I really like it. I ended up getting the petite Halogen as I preferred that length on me. Hope yours is working out for you and I like the way you've styled it.

Thanks Vicki. It looks like Nordstrom still has the dress. It runs small in the bust. I would recommending sizing up if you're above a B cup.

Okay, thanks, Sylvie, for seeing this late post and responding! I just ordered it today and will let you know how it works out. After seeing it on you (didn't you wear this to a YLF meet-up? Or, was that someone else?), I've been really interested in buying the dress. I just wasn't sure if I wanted the cobalt blue or the coral, so I ordered both and will see which one I like. Thanks again for your help! ^_^
