Eliminating static cling in silk

I associate static cling with synthetics, but I notice that silk tops and pants suffer from it too.

Static Guard works great but the fumes and aroma of it are unpleasant.

Anyone have other tricks for silk?

I put lotion on my legs when wear silk skirts, and I shake them a lot too! I don't think it's been as bad since I use dryer balls, but can report back when its warm enough for silk.

Try putting a safety pin on the inside too. And hairspray.

Interesting. A safety pin because its weight pulls the garment away from the body, or because the metal of the pin does something to the static?

And hairspray -- no chance it would stain a silk garment?

You can also brush a Bounce sheet over the inside. Works for your hair too! Don't remember where I read this but I now keep a Bounce sheet in my purse for static hair emergencies.....like when trying on clothes. It doesn't leave any residue and zaps the static.

I have to add that the lotion trick works even if you're wearing tights! Just get a little hand cream and smooth it over the tights. It works like a charm.

Great question! I don't understand why Static Guard seems to be the only anti-static spray available. It smells awful!

The fumes get to me even more than the scent. They linger and make it hard to breathe, both on the garment and in the room you sprayed it in.

Negatively charged ions cause static cling with silk. Glide a wire hanger between the fabric and your body and that should stop the static cling. It also works with a safety pin or a metal thimble.

ND -- love this solution! I'm assuming the negatively charged ions build up again after the hanger trick; how often during a day would you say it needs to be repeated?

To ensure your silk items stay static free throughout the day, you can spray the inside of them with a very fine mist of water in addition to the hanger trick
