Eileen Fisher cashmere? Value? Quality?

I'm really tired of buying (usually not expensive) placeholder essentials and then having them perform poorly. Like fuzz balls, or sweaters just looking tired and sad after a single season, which is pretty much what I deserve when I buy an acrylic cardigan just so I can go home. The last time I bought a cashmere sweater, it didn't perform over time. But it wasn't terribly expensive, so I guess I didn't deserve better.

I'm now looking at a pricey Eileen Fisher black cashmere cardigan with buttons down the sides. If it were good quality, it would be a MVP for years. But if it were not, it would be another unsatisfactory cardigan, to add to the unsatisfactory cardigan collection, only one that cost $250. I've pretty much only heard good stuff about EF here--but EF cashmere? Any specific experience to relate?

I have personally never purchased Eileen Fisher cashmere, but I have purchased many of her other fabrications. I can only say good things about those fabrics (linen, silk, rayon, tencel)! They are amazing! They feel wonderful against my skin. They never need ironing ... even the linen!!!!!!!!!!!

The cotton I own does not stand out in my mind as superior though.

In my experience, everything EF makes is very high quality ESPECIALLY the fabrics. That's their calling card. That said, even though there is a wide range of cashmere on the marketplace, it is always a pain to take care of; it naturally pills. I prefer merino wool for sweaters and cardigans I plan to keep and wear for a long time. And finally I think EF would be happy to take their sweater back if you weren't satisfied. They're just a great company.

I have an EF cashmere sweater, and it’s the softest, most luxurious thing, ever. That being said, I've only worn it a few times, so I can’t really talk about how it stands up to life. I have not washed it yet - It is big and drapey, and I always wear something under it, and I don’t tend to wash things, esp sweaters, as much as some do. So I can’t comment on how it holds up to washing. Pilling has not been an issue. But my goodness it’s soft.

I have a “tissue weight” cashmere cardigan from EF that I wore in very heavy rotation for at least two years. It now needs some depilling but it’s otherwise holding up well. I swear by sweater stones for this. I buy a good amount of cashmere because it doesn’t overheat me like some other wools and I get plenty of it second hand. You can’t always tell how it’s going to wear but I’d say EF, J Crew and Nordstrom Signature are good bets.

I have one EF cashmere cardigan that is several years old. It needs a bit of depilling but is not as bad as some other brands I have. I'm looking at you, Halogen.
