EF skirted leggings - better late than never?

My husband, son and I are heading to Victoria, BC July 3rd for a week's vacation that will contain a variety of activities - from hanging out in my brother's backyard, to hiking, to walking by the ocean, to shopping, to sitting on restaurant patios sipping something cool.

I'm just starting to give some thought as to my travel capsule and know it will contain a variety of casual items as well as one of my drape front EF dresses for dinner out. I'm seriously considering trying out the EF skirted leggings (a.k.a. "butt vest") that whipped through YLF with a frenzy a couple of months ago. I think these have the potential to be a great travel item that can pair with my black EF asymmetrical tunic top and my blue EF linen tunic for running around downtown shopping and lunches out.

Would love your feedback, specifically:

a) Does this seem like a good addition to a casual travel capsule?
b) Do you see these with my style?
c) For those who have the skirted leggings, would they be too hot for summer?

Any other thoughts from those who have the skirted leggings would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I don't own the EF skirted leggings, but I have several pairs of skirted leggings that are basically running gear and I LOVE them for their versatility, comfort and ease. I think they would especially work for you as part of a travel capsule. They might be a good way for your to expand and branch out your style, especially because when you travel you can explore a new look without judgment. I have no idea about whether you might find these kinds of garments (particularly the EF leggings) too hot. I am never too hot but I know this plagues others. My summer goals are often to find items that provide enough coverage to keep me warm in overly Air Conditioned settings.

Nebraskim - thanks so much for reply. And I love your comment about traveling being a chance to branch out a little. I know in Victoria down by the water, it can often be a little on the cool side so maybe the coverage of the leggings would be a good idea...

Mine, although not the EF ones, are most definitely packed away until Fall. I think mine may be of a heavier knit than the EF's though..

As for your style? Yes, I think you'd like them, but now that I think about it, I'm not sure I've seen you in leggings, have I? The EF's are not exactly inexpensive, which was what steered me away from them. Too pricey for a "maybe".

Yes, though in a more relaxed way. I am used to your M-F looks but I could see these easily working in a weekend/travel capsule.

Not sure. I tried on an EF pair and they seemed quite thin to me, so they might just work for summer. The pair I tried didn't work for me, but I think maybe it was a sizing thing in hindsight.

I would say try them. Can't hurt!

I think they would work beautifully for you Shannon. You have a lot of tunic and drapy tops, which they are perfect for. I can measure the length of mine when I get home, but I suspect on you they'll even be more of a skirt than a "tunic extender". I was pleasantly surprised by the length of the skirt.

They will be perfect for travel, as they are comfy, light weight, wrinkle free, versatile...

Only hesitation would be the seasonality of them. Are you one to wear, or want to wear, leggings with skirts or dresses in July?? I'm not - knee length perhaps, but full length - no. And not necessarily because of the actual temperature of them - more the thought of covering up in what's supposed to be one of the three decent months of the year. I'd rather freeze in shorts in July than wear leggings! I did wear mine this week, but it was only 8 degrees and raining, and they were perfect to wear with rubber boots to do some quick errands.

I think you should try them... but not necessarily for this trip.

I think so, as long as you don't think of them as a "skirt with leggings" - because I wouldn't wear a skirt that short. I have the ones Lisa has. I think of mine as leggings with benefits or more infamously, a butt-vest!

Shannon - the EF skirted leggings are work horses for me and they are 4 season. In fact I think I was one of the first or first to wax poetic about them. They pack beautifully and take up almost no room. I don't have issues in summer. I wear leggings all year long and these are a bit thinner than I like but I love whole look. I wear them with a light top and typically cut out booties (my version of sandals). I find them endlessly versatile. Interested what you think when you try them on. But thumbs up from me!!

I think they will work beautifully as you suggest, with asymmetrical tunics. And I think they'd be good to have along on the trip, in case the weather is cool. Today I wore leggings under a dress to bike to work, but I wouldn't have worn leggings all day; I don't find them comfortable when the temperatures reach above mid 70s F. The EF leggings are a fairly lightweight, cool-feeling rayon-lycra knit, so not as heavy as some leggings I have. And also they aren't all that clingy or tight feeling, as leggings go.

Obviously, I am not fit to comment on this one. Ahem.

I do think they'd be a great transitional season item, but I wouldn't wear them in summer, I don't think. Yeah, Victoria is cooler than muggy Winnipeg or Toronto...but it's still summer in July. And can, in fact, be pretty darned hot, depending on the year. The July I lived there was blistering. Linen all the way, baby.

They'd work for your style though if the fit were right.

Why am I the only human they look dumb on? Admittedly, I didn't have the EF version. Sigh...still pining...

Shannon, I don't have skirted leggings but would really love a pair:) My only concern with them from what I have heard is this:

The thinness of the fabric
The length of the skirt

Now the fact the that the fabric is a little thinner could actually work in your favour for the warmer months BUT sometimes that thinner fabric can look unflattering on one's legs. And as you are petite the length of the skirt might be good for you.

I think this is something you may need to order and try before you can be sure.

And yes, I see this style fitting in nicely with your wardrobe.

I could definitely see them working for your style, but for me, at least, they are not summer wear. They're not heavy or thick at all, but I don't want anything that clingy on the entire length of my legs in summer. Now, I'm not sure what kind of temps your summer plans entail -- I could see wearing these in temps up through the 60s but no warmer. Granted, that is my personal preference, YMMV.
