Two things have recently prompted editing. I think I’m leaning in the opposite direction as Notsaf as she describes keeping a few things on hand to satisfy that “just want something different today” urge. While that does make a lot of sense to supply yourself with those pieces to fill the need for a change of pace, I find myself moving more towards completely passing those things by and using favorite fall backs pretty much every day and for every occasion.

The things I mentioned inspiring me this way are having just helped my in-laws clear out their house and move to assisted living. They’ve moved from clothing space of 3 large closets, a small coat closet, and 4 large dressers to 2 small closets and 2 small dressers. One closet also “has” to contain such things as folding chairs and a portable sewing machine. So both of them deleted a LOT of clothing, and I helped by counting pieces and days between laundry opportunities. This process continues with the rest of their household goods and is also motivating to me.

The other inspiring thing is that a few months ago, I started folding my underclothes, pajamas, workout and running clothes the Konmari way. It’s true that you can see everything that way! And it shows me that I wasn’t using stuff on the bottom, and have concluded that most of that bottom stuff, I do not need. So if you’re interested in Konmari decluttering but can’t get yourself to do it for some reason, just using the folding method could be a sneaky way to start.
