Edgy? Or Tragic? - YouLookFab Forum

The outfit that I planned for today (mint green linen shirt, taupe pinstripes and my beloved shoes) looked fine on the hanger, but didn't have my heart as I walked out the door. It only seemed to get worse as the day progressed. So much worse, in fact, that I spent my lunch hour searching for something else to wear. No after no after no.

Finally, I found this blue tunic shirt, which I like and can use this summer. When I tried it on in the store, I kind of liked the way it looked with my outfit. It felt a little edgy and interesting and outside the box to my modern classic eye. I couldn't tell, though, if it was just because I hated what I was wearing so much or if it actually looked good.

I've included a close up of the print and the pinstripe trouser that I'm wearing today so that you get a better idea of how it looks. Sorry for the faceless photos, but apparently I disliked this so much that I didn't even remember to smile for my picture. Sheesh.

So, let me know what you think. Yay = This is edgy and cool. Nay = Naaah, doesn't work. Understandably, if you've got a poison eye for paisley, no response needed.

I think the weave of the pants are too wintry for the tops.

Something is a little off, but the adjective "tragic" made me laugh out loud! I will have to puzzle over what is needed - Anna may have hit it.

@Anna. Yup. I think you are right. I bet that's why they don't read well with the shoes, either.

I like the blue top with the pants. Maybe you could use it spring/fall with different shoes as a seasonal transition outfit. The minty linen top would be great with white jeans, or coral or blue pants.

I like both tops, just not with the pants. Do you have white dress slacks in your arsenal? They would be so fab with *the* shoes.

Your slacks are a very heathery warm color so *feel* heavy; thus they are fighting with the cooler colors in the paisley. I think they would fight less with a neutral non-heather gray or more spring/summer colors. I think the aqua tunic works a little better because it is a warmer blue. BTW, on my monitor the slacks do not look taupe at all; they appear goldish brown.

@Claire, definitely! I bought both planning to wear them with my white trousers and my jeans this summer. I"m glad you immediately thought of that too--it at least shows that my instincts aren't entirely off! I think I like both tops, but not with these bottoms. I gave in and switched shoes. Don't want to taint my beauties.

@Donna, my monitor shows the color as golden too. They are definitely a cool taupe in person, rather than a warm tan. I hadn't really thought about the heather until I saw the photo and read Anna's response, but I think that is dead on why I'm not liking these today. Sigh.

I like every item, but agree with the others that the items aren't exactly making great "harmony." lol. Don't be discouraged! This is hardly a disaster, and I've seen you post some amazing outfits lately. Everything fits well, everything is pleasing to the eye.

I think Claire has a great idea. Navy blue skirts and pants would also go well with these tops!

If you have a white belt, that might help #1 look more like a transition outfit and buffer the light top's collision with the heavy pants.

@rae, collision, now that had me laughing! Definitely not one of my best outfits! Luckily, no one was harmed in the making of this outfit flop and I'm able to walk away a little wiser.

I like the color combo of your original outfit A LOT. I find the blue of the paisley shirt is a mismatch in undertones for the trousers, but other than that...
