Edgy or just plain naff?

Bumbags, fannypacks call them what you will they've always been see as a bit, well naff! I do however have a soft spot for them and i note that they have been seen on the catwalks thanks to Marc Jacobs. Supposedly M & S are bringing one out in May http://www.timesonline.co.uk/t.....999133.ece till then i dug out this http://i594.photobucket.com/al.....ag/001.jpg old 'gear' one from my 'hiking' phase which like the bumbag lasted 1 weekend!!! As is it's a bit rubbish but i have a vision of customising it- perhaps some sort of patch over the label perhaps sequins or biker? and some leather tasselly zip pulls? Any ideas or should i just wait till they come into the shops or should i take a reality check and stop having such ridiculous thoughts??!! I've seen these a couple of times, and I think the only way they look current is if they are in a more structured style and/or a more...I don't know, grown-up material (like leather or pleather). I don't see the nylon, less structured ones coming back as fashion and not gear. On the other hand, I don't even love the look in a structured leather style, so maybe I'm not the intended audience.

I think I'd scrap that one and wait until they come out in the stores. I really kind of doubt the look will ever really take off - it's just too much "old lady tourist," ya know, but if they do, I think it'd be in leather or something, not nylon.

I think the one you have looks too much like gear and that will be hard to disguise. I wouldn't put any effort into sprucing it up, honestly.

I'm with the others. Too gear-like. Though I seem to remember you getting a more fashion-y one at some point? Or trying to get the look to work at least.

I think I've got enough of a tummy pouch as it is, so no thanks. I'm finding it rather unflattering even on the slender, flat-tummied model. Makes her look like she's got a leather beer gut with spikes.

Thanks for your honesty and keeping me from a fashion fate worse than death!!! Maya i did try the look last summer but alas the one i tried was WAY too big. I'll ditch this one and keep looking x

I inherited a black leather one from Coach. Maybe I'll try the look when the weather warms up, ie when I don't have to wear a coat.

I have a soft spot for fanny packs since Carrie Bradshaw wore a Gucci one many many times during the fourth season of SATC.

Ooo now that one is cute Bella.
I am still burned out on the regular ones from last time around. The only time I used one was for going to Vegas when I needed hands free and safe keeping.

I agree with what the others have already said- looks to much like gear. But I am sure some cute ones will appear soon if they are trending again.

Yeah, I think you should keep yours for gearish-type uses, Louise.

I have to admit, I actually have two fanny packs that I wear occasionally (sometimes it's really good to be hands free with two kids). They aren't the traditional fanny packs though. One's a Tokidoki canguro:

I was given a bum-bag in the 90s and didn't like it then. Maybe because I have no waist. Ugh anyway I'm still not a fan sorry!! If you find one that you love please post pics and try to convert me
